Civilization is great! You can pick up Civ V with all of the content for a great price now days. It will definitely keep you busy.

Cities: Skylines is a good slow paced city builder if you are into something like that. Tons of mods out there too to try out.

Planet Coaster Awesome amusement park builder. Way better than roller coaster tycoon ever could have dreamed to be in my opinion.

As others have mentioned, Stardew Valley as well.

I highly suggest you look into it after you've satisfied your world building itch.

I like the sound of it from wiki so far

What about the Age of Empires games?. They may be a little older but they are still fun. You can build colonies and advance them through different technological ages. I recommend trying Age of Empires 3 and they also just remastered Age of Empires 1.

When I was looking into lists of "bests" AoE seemed to score well so that's on my list to narrow down.

Another DV, seems you have someone who doesn't like you

I appreciate you

I was actually about to say I'm not sure where the narration critique came from. I haven't played in a year or so, but I don't recall any voice acting at all

I searched CK2 on Steam and there was a YT vid, go check it. It's like 2 minutes and the whole time some dude is talking (thinking maybe it's narration for the preview and not the game..) and there's pop ups the whole time as he's making his moves.

Being that 2 of you are recommending the game I will definitely check it more, thanks!

I'm leaning towards Civ V I think. Can get a bundle on Steam for $49 LINK
Is that worth it and include all the important things I want or will I still need more expansions?

Also, stardew Valley

Thanks, seems Stardew has a following. Looked at wiki for Legends and it looks great thanks for the rec.

If you can wait, Civ V with all the dlc goes on sale on a pretty frequent basis for maybe 15 bucks.

I guess I'll be checking Steam here and there. Any idea when they do that type of sale or just random?

ETA: By the way, I have a Surface Laptop (not the Surface Pro) with i5-7200U 2.5 GHz with 8GB RAM on a 256 SSD, Intel® HD Graphics 620. I'll be good with that?

Welcome!

I played Civ5 a lot. The main thing I hated about it was the combat... like every war lasts 500 years because they don't have tactical combat. Endless legends has tactical combat that makes more sense, also has hero units and a winter mechanic that makes the game so much more interesting.

If you add any games you're interested in to your Steam wishlist, it will notify you via email if/when the game goes on sale. Just click "Add to Wishlist" from the game's Steam page.

I second the recommendations for Stardew Valley. That is one of the most addictive games I've ever played.

Played Talos Principle recently. Stupid fun 3D spatial puzzle/philosophy game. Made by Croteam (Serious Sam). Check that out if you like puzzle games.

AoE was just completely remastered and is available on the Windows Store. AoE II and III with all of their expansions are available on Steam.
