Please help me pick a single player game on PC

What's up fellas, first time posting on the GB
I think I played Civilization a long time ago. I checked Google and Civ came out in 91 so timing seems right. Were there any other big named ones similar at that time? I just remember having to keep building farms and other things I can't remember but I liked the slow detailed way of building a world.
Anyway, for some reason it's been in my head lately and I may want to start a game. I just know how much time I can start putting in. I haven't played anything since Red Dead Redemption which was awesome but overall I don't play at all anymore and didn't even then. Before that was Socom 2 and it was awesome too (that was cool doing the whole online gaming and talking to people on missions but now I have a wife).
I want something slow paced, definitely single player. I want to construct a world, should I go back to a Civ game? Which one? I did a little internetting and it seems the newer Civ games have mods and expansions and I'm thinking I'd like to buy a single game and have fun within that game and not need a bunch of shite to do it, unless it's really worth it and I'll listen. I read that Skyrim is really good. I love History so that's why I think about Civ again as I want to start early on and maybe go through Ancient Rome, etc.
Suggestions would be really appreciated

What you're asking for is a little disjointed, and I mean no offense. If you could go into a bit more detail, we might be able to help more. With that said, if you like history, maybe try to catch Crusader Kings II on a Steam sale?

Rome total war 2
Empire total War
Napoleon Total War
Victoria 2

Not sure what info you need but I liked Civilization back then and kinda want a similar experience of world building. Single player don’t care about most expansions or mods or whatever all the extra stuff is called,I just want to buy a game and play it at my leisure and build. I don’t know if I even want online haha, I don’t want something I have to keep buying shite.
I will check what Crusader looks like, thanks. Have you played recent versions of Civilization? Seems like 4 and 5 were real big steps up and now I guess 6 is great.
ETA:
Checked on Steam there was a YT video and it seemed like way too much narration and pop up screens. Is it like that the whole game? Maybe I'm boring but I just want to be off on my own and building, don't need someone talking the whole time or a bunch of pop ups.

Not sure why someone down voted you so here’s an up but I’ll take and look at any suggestions. By the title I would guess you’re constantly in battle? I think I want something a little “slower” to where I need to build my village into a town then a city, etc.

Seems like it might be cool.

Civ 5 is still the best in my opinion and I own Civ 6.

Thanks, I checked wiki quick and it looks like mostly farming? I just want to start that way and get to more powerful things.
ETA: But I bet this game is fun and I may try it

Thanks. How long have you had 6? I heard people didn't like 5 compared to 4 and then expansions and mods changed that so wondering if the same for 6...
Can I just play 5 without a bunch of add-ons and enjoy it? I read about certain things like religion and something else you get with expansion which seemed to make 5 great.

Get all expansions.
I’ve had 6 since launch. Just can’t get into it.

Thanks, I was debating between 4, 5, and 6 if I get Civ. 5 seems to get a lot of love so I might check it. Can get 6 for $29.99 online from GS.

I just want to be off on my own and building

Hmm, I’ll read up some more on Mine. Probably not Stationeers as I want earth and real historical.

crusader kings is tight. there really arent any cutscenes

I know it's not what you're asking for, but the witcher 3 is absolutely one of the greatest single player games ever.
I highly suggest you look into it after you've satisfied your world building itch.

Yup. 6 is getting better with every update but it is still lacking.
5, with expansions, is one of the best games I've ever played.

What about the Age of Empires games?. They may be a little older but they are still fun. You can build colonies and advance them through different technological ages. I recommend trying Age of Empires 3 and they also just remastered Age of Empires 1.
Total war is very similar to Civ. You have to build your country up in a map screen similar to Civ. You can conquer new cities and develop new technologies to give you an edge in battle. When you go to battle you can either simulate it like Civ or control your troops on the battlefield.

I was actually about to say I'm not sure where the narration critique came from. I haven't played in a year or so, but I don't recall any voice acting at all

I prefer endless legend over civ
Also, stardew Valley
