People that set the logo to ‘barely visible’ are psychopaths

There's a happy midpoint between those two screens

Yeah I find most games too dark in general. I always adjust the brightness slightly above the supposed "ideal" level.

I play in a brightly lit room most of the time though, so that makes sense. I think they assume you are playing the game in pitch black darkness or something, setting it at the "ideal" level you often times can't see shite.

The most notorious "dark" game of all time is probably Doom 64 on the original N64. It was border line unplayable. You had to turnt he in game brightness to the max and also up the brightness on your TV set itself to a very high level to even begin to see a little bit.

The re-release a few years ago they thankfully fixed this issue.

I generally do what they say, then bump it one notch brighter. I find that to be a fair balance.

I think the developer usually has a specific vision in mind when they set those parameters.

With a horror game, I think darkness or ambiguity regarding your surroundings is part of the appeal.

I doubt that Capcom wanted you to view that smorgasbord of viscera in full 4k.

That's my general approach as well. I want to play the game close as possible to what the developers envisioned while also being able to actually see shite.

I think developers clearly use better TVs than mine, in perfect gaming conditions with perfect room lighting, so they can actually see at their designed lower brightness levels.

I don't think OP was saying you should play it in the 2nd picture, I think it's intended as just a point of reference, with the brightness is cranked way up to show you how little you can actually see of the scene in the 1st pic.

I am always afraid that I am going to miss some detail/item when exploring so I turn it up a couple notches above "ideal."
