Upgrading to a gtx 980
Would anyone be interested in a gtx 780?

Usually that doesn't affect anything, but I don't have much first-hand experience with overclocking AMD cards on AMD chipsets, where Catalyst is tied in with both CPU and GPU.

It will cause some issues if you OC with AMD Overdrive and another program.

Not I good sir, AMD only for me. Bring on the 3xx series!
I may get ballsy and grab a 390X when they launch in a few months just to be set for a long time. Looks like they'll be water cooled from factory too + HBM.

Do yourself a favor and wait a little bit. Get reviews of retail models (post-release), and see how driver support is. AMD's known for rocky launches with new architecture. They need a month or three to get the drivers up to par.
Plus, if NVIDIA is waiting for AMD to drop the 290 before they drop Big Maxwell, AMD may respond in turn with a price drop. Maybe.

I may wait a bit, we'll see.
Also depends on just how far advanced the 390X is over everything else, appears it will be quite a bit.

Yes, the massive memory bandwidth improvement over Hawaii is promising, as are the benchmarks. But the reality is usually a little tamer when we start seeing real-world performance across a multitude of games. It'll obviously beat the 980, which beats everything else at the moment, but where AMD usually wins is on price. If they can get a hybrid-cooled reference design that beats or matches the 980 in price and beats it in performance, and isn't plagued with really stupid driver bugs, it will be king for a long time. I'm behind in my GPU news, because I just now read GM200 (Big Maxwell) may not arrive until 2016, so if true, that means this year will be full of mid-range and lower releases from NVIDIA, plus an 8GB 970/980.

The 390X is supposed to beat the 980 ti/titan 2 from what I've read, that's their target at least.
May go 380X instead too, just all depends when concrete info comes out, which should be really really soon.

That's marketing talk from AMD through the mouths of kind of crappy bloggers/writers. If the 390X arrives first, NVIDIA's next flagship will top it but be the less economically sound purchase, and so on. How it's always been and will be....At least I hope. The competition is the only thing making these cards faster and more affordable. We see what Intel does with their 6 and 8-core CPU prices when there's literally no other option.

You're hoping, since you're an Nvidia fanboy and all.

I'm guessing everyone is going to wait for it to be cheaper. I would also wait on a PC port review because gta4 was a mess.

You could get a cheaper case and drop the SSD to save some money. You could also find a used 280 or 280x on eBay.
