Refresh rate successfully overclocked to 85Hz.
Reading some sites on this monitor and apparently they OC pretty damn well, saying I can get an easy and safe 95Hz but I'm going to keep it at 85Hz on the lower/safer side since it's used and all.

Not like you would notice those 10 frames anyway.

Yeah, just one. It's also the only native 120+Hz 1440P monitor out there. It's called the ASUS ROG Swift. It is in stock for approximately two minutes per week for the low price of $799.
Really a shame. Gsync is something I'm very interested in. Has amd come out with theirs yet?

Is that what the difference is? I have no knowledge on OCing monitors on the technical difference side, it was easy as anything else to OC though.
Is 60Hz to 85Hz not a pretty decent difference?

I'm saying you wouldn't notice the extra 10 frames from 85 to 95.
I can't tell you what you will see from 60 to 85. I've only gamed at 60.

That's what I thought but wasn't sure.

I'm using the older QNIX with the IPS panel instead of the PLS, and it overclocks to a whopping 64Hz. Those panels were not good overclockers. I want an overclockable one, but I'd rather wait on more gsync options now. I keep going back and forth about whether I want 60Hz 4K gsync, or 144Hz 1440p gsync. Reading the reviews of the ASUS monitor makes me nervous. Seems to have tons of QC issues, all related to the panel. I'm guessing the panel is hard to make to these specs. Probably a lot of waste and low yield. They can't keep the monitors in stock fast enough, so maybe the standard for grading panels is being lowered just to meet demand.
I wonder how many units have been sold so far.

Are the 1440 gsync also ips?
Posted on 12/30/14 at 11:34 am to Mr Gardoki
No, it's a TN panel. But, from what I've been hearing from folks on OCN, it's the best TN panel you'll ever see (assuming you get a good one with no dead pixels or flickering or whatever other issues are plaguing it). TN panels normally have a 6-bit color depth, while the Swift is 8-bit, same as IPS. Side by side with my glossy IPS, I'm sure the difference would still be noticeable. But understanding that there are no gsync IPS/PLS panels, I can live with a small difference.
EDIT: Just got an alert. 7 in stock at amazon right now. Let's see how long they last. LINK
EDIT2: sold out in 4 minutes

I want to see a TN and ips side by side. Mine is ips on the lower end and it's fine. How would they compare to a normal TV?

What's a normal TV? I have 4 LCD TVs in my house from various years and they all look different. My 27" 1080p TN ASUS monitor beats them all except for my Samsung.
My secondary monitor is the ASUS TN, primary an IPS, so I see both side by side daily. The TN is different looking, but I don't know if it's better. The colors are slightly different, mostly because I can't find the right settings to match the IPS, and the IPS doesn't have settings at all. Mainly, I prefer the glossy over the matte.

How are they making led tvs now? Ips? Something completely different?
Posted on 12/30/14 at 2:44 pm to Mr Gardoki
No idea what the norm is now. My Samsung is a S-PVA. Samsung might be using PLS in the newer models, and LG using IPS. It's kind of hard to say which one is superior to the other at their best. PLS tends to be warmer but with infinite viewing angles, and S-PVA will produce better blacks (probably not better than Plasma though) with a bit more limited viewing angle. I don't keep up with the TV industry too closely since I only buy TVs when mine break.

I don't know led very well since I'm a plasma guy.

Just keep in mind LED is not a panel technology, though. Simply the type of backlighting used. I actually have a 55" LCD TV in the living room that uses the cold cathode fluorescent lighting (TV is a good 5-6 years old). It's not horrible or anything, but consumes more power and doesn't have the same level of brightness, contrast, or color accuracy. I also think LEDs can respond (change colors) faster than CCFLs.
I've never done a true comparison of all of my TVs. I just haven't cared much for TVs in general. I spend much more time in front of monitors, which have a different (maybe even an additional) set of requirements.

With guidance of the board and lots of research, I built a new system a month ago, and everything was great for the past month. I went away for Christmas for 1.5 weeks. Before leaving, I powered everything down , flipped off the psu and unplugged everything from the wall while I was gone. Came back today to a dead computer,
I cannot power on the system. The case button and power button on mobo (asrock extreme4) do nothing. Nothing has been touched since last I shut down. Tested the psu using the "paper clip trick" and the psu fan spun up. It appears to work (do not have an actual psu tester device)
What on earth do I do now??

Try shorting the two pins that the case power button connects to on the motherboard. You can use a paperclip or just use the tip of a screwdriver (making sure both pins touch the screwdriver).
Might be worth grabbing a PSU tester for $8: LINK
If you can't get the motherboard to switch on the PSU, remove all but one stick of RAM, remove your video card as well, just to eliminate a few various power and compatibility issues. If still nothing, you either have a dead motherboard or CPU.

Think I randomly found out why I was having the black screen issue when OCing my 290.
I had never checked Catalyst, and I still had AMD OverDrive with GPU OverDrive enabled, while using Trixx to OC.
Turned off OverDrive, OCing just fine with Trixx now.
