Yeah, I'm still not entirely convinced that it was a power draw issue, even though you were at the threshold. But I'm perplexed because normally when a PSU is overstressed from trying to draw too much current from the wall, the PSU's OCP kicks in and shuts off, or worst case scenario it burns up while sending way too much current to your components and results in a murder-suicide inside your case.

I'm not familiar with the model PSU you were using, but familiar enough to know it's not exactly on the list of awesome trusted PSUs, and the difference between a good and bad PSU is not just its inability to sustain high loads because the amperage is overrated, but also the unpredictability of what will happen when it does cross that unsustainable load threshold.

Hell, could've just been a poorly constructed power cord. Hopefully it's not a result of something going on between your breaker and the power outlet.

Luckily my FIL is an electrician. He's going to look at the wiring the next time he's in town.

Building a cheap little PC for my dad's secretary (my sister) to use at the office. He just bought this PoS toshiba laptop for $300 that has 2 gigs of ram, a shitty processor and a 500gb 5400rpm drive. It had a hard time running out of the box

What I have. Feel free to suggest other parts

I also plan on throwing in this PNY gt 520 I got for free when I bought my h100i... Why not

Looks fine. Not too familiar with Mini ITX boards, and not that it matters, but is that H81 one of the boards that can OC the Pentium?

Also, it probably won't matter for her use, but the single-stick memory drives my OCD insane.

Not worried about the SSD. It's faster than any other mechanical drive, so they'll be happy.

No idea. Didn't check because I don't plan on OC'ing. All I plan on doing is getting it built and installing software.

I hate it as well, but they won't notice.

I have a crap monitor to use for now, but I want to upgrade to a dual display with 2 new ones

anyone have good recommendations for a solid one that will go well with my build? would love to spend under $400 combined for the pair if possible but I'll obviously go higher if someone can convince me

Rumors of a 970 Ti and 980 Ti are coming on very strong now. Still will be'z Lil Max GM-104 but more transitors = higher CUDA count.

My 980 isn't here yet, but when it arrives will put for sale on Amazon since NewEgg and the like are all sold out.

Fast and Cheap SSD, I have 3 of them in various machines. They went on sale 6+ months ago for $79.99 and bought 1, then $69.99 so bought 1 and just recently purchased another @ $59.99 for my FreeNAS box based around an iTX AM1 board/5150 Kabini Quad Core. I will use the 128GB SSD as a sort of cache for files the GF and I use regularly. She recently started her own business so their is constant changes made to forms.

Currently using WD Raptor 500GB as the cache on homeserver and a Corsair 60GB SSD refrub in the NAS, but the Corsair SSD feels like it has a slow controller. Never done research on the SSD, but it writes like shtt.

Maybe that will divert attention away from the 980 so it comes back in stock. I'll still get a couple of 980s since I'm sure the Ti will be a $700 card.

Where did you order from and which AIB did you go with? Some are claiming that Amazon's so-called preorders are putting them a month out from shipping. I wonder if the ones in stock at newegg are actually in stock.

I bought an EVGA GTX 980 straight from NewEgg the Friday morning of release. Within 30mins most had already sold out.

Im not expecting much performance difference from my OC'd 780 Ti's compared to these 980s, but now, the 980 REALLY makes things interesting. Before I rebuild my 2014 upgrade for my main gaming PC, ill wait to see if the 980 Ti is true. Plus still haven't purchased DDR4 RAM for my 5960X and MSI X99 XPower, so 980 Tis would really make this an upgrade for me like going from the GTX 690 to GTX 2xTITANs in SLi back during February 2013.

LiL Max GM104 has me impressed with TDP, just think what Big Max GM110 does in 2015.

Would this be efficient for editing videos made using elgato?

Eta: any edits are fine and welcome, however that is the case I want.

I used 8.5-10GB of RAM just compressing older pictures into .zip, you want at less 16GB.

Now, the dual core, idk man. My HomeServer sports an i3 and its a little slow when deal with large packets of data. At less get a non-K version i5/i7. If you're trying to go cheap, pick up an AMD FX 8320/50 with a 990FX chipset on board.

For the editing aspect of it, your CPU falls way short as Coyote said. Now, if this is just a video editing/capture machine and not for gaming, obviously you can cut down the GPU. And if you're trying to game and capture on the same PC, again the CPU needs a boost.

Let us know what your full intended use is. If you're gaming and capturing and editing with it, you'll probably need to increase your budget and/or move away from the Mini-ITX FF.

How much compression, how big was the archive, and what program did you use?

I just need something for editing videos to upload to YouTube. It won't be used for any heavy gaming. Going to be getting an XB1 in December and I need a PC for editing gameplay clips recorded using an elgato.

There isn't any motherboards listed for AMD FX series that fit that case. I already have the case, hence why I wasn't willing to change it.

If I go with an i5 it only bumps the cost up to 825$ so I am not to worried. Would like to keep the PC cost under $900.

Just would like to get the plan together so I can start buying the parts now and have everything ready for December.
