Just raped by the market. Wasn't gonna say anything while you had it listed for sale here, but Stout and I grabbed some 290s for $199 each on ebay a couple weeks ago
But I had to buy my blocks and backplates (same ones you put on your 290) for retail, so your $290 price tag is definitely a steal.

You're not a tool if someone buys it.
I did the same thing with a boat a few years back. Sold it for double what I should have.

Unfortunately in this situation he feels like a tool because someone got a hell of a deal off him. He sold it for less than half what he paid for it because the market suddenly got saturated with used R9's on ebay.

Do I need to do anything with the fans or just keep it running how it is? Seems to be running stable.

It honestly doesn't bother me much, its giving the block away with card for that price.

Probably not. Changing the fan profile would just allow the fan to ramp up earlier and improve temps when stress testing. You probably don't hit 80C when gaming anyway. But for your reference, you can go to "Advanced Mode" in the bios, click on the "Monitor" tab, and you'll see "CPU Fan Profile." If you set it to "Turbo," your temps may improve during high loads (but it will be louder). Up to you.

Yeah, I was in denial for a while about how little I'd get for my 7970s with Heatkiller Ni blocks with backplates. Let them go for $225 a piece to blue (who is immediately trying to turn them around to some loser redditor

It looks like I won't be making my money back either since I have to sell them for ~$240 to make it back

Yea its around the same loss my Titans felt when sold. I purchased 1 for regular 1029 but the other had to pay a premium of 1100. In the end I sold them for around 700 to 800, don't remember.
So, I have lost more coin and the margin.
EDT: Best resale value on an ultra high end card, sold my 690 for $90 bucks less than retail 6 months after purchase. You don't see that type of resale value on the ultra high end side, even if at the time it was the fastest solution for true 2 slot iTX builds.

You guys should check out the i5 unlocked HT thread from last night on OCN.

Reading it now. That's crazy if it's true.

Wow, pretty lucky. That's a long thread though. Any conclusions reached? Mislabeled engineer sample? Super-early batch? It looks like the L3 cache is the same, so maybe it's just a factory error in disabling HT. It's rare in Intels, and always highly batch specific (as in, you're unlikely to find someone else on the Internet who can unlock the same thing.) I remember the Celerons many years ago (Pentiums with crippled cache)...some of them could be unlocked. Not nearly as numerous and easy as AMD though.
