Is it an older drive? What model is it? "Small 4-pin" makes me think of the drives with molex for backward compatibility with older PSUs. Or, maybe you are talking about the pins shown on the lefthand side of this image:
Those are for jumpers. They used to be for indicating a drive's position on a channel (master/slave), but are now there mostly for diagnostics and other testing. No reason for you to mess with it.

The desktop looks fine at 1440p now.
For some reason, when I first logged in via the guest account and plugged it in and set the resolution to 1440, it looked terrible. I literally could not read text. everything was grainy and blurry. I then went to go play dishonored and when i set the resolution to 1440, it froze. Had to reboot computer.
came back later and logged into my brothers primary account, then went 1440 and everything is good. played bioshock infinite for 10 minutes and it looks really great. idk what was wrong earlier

That is your front fan header.
Plug your front fans in it and then plug a 4pin molex from the PSU. Locate a switch on the header which will control voltage resulting in RPM control over your fans.

The crazy price of RAM atm might be worth $70 if it is 2 modules of 4gb/1600.
I would pay over $250 but personally would only pay $150. I had a 4100 that I gave away, they are good little chips for gaming but cant handle multi tasking.

I'm lazy, dumb as shite, and trying to find the easy way out. I would love to "build my own", because it would allow me to buy it pieces at a time. However, even with all of the help i've got here, I still feel like a complete idiot looking at PC parts

Those are all the parts you need to put it together. It's not rocket science. Everything that needs power gets power plugged in to it. Everything that needs to communicate gets plugged in to its communication BUS. If you do all of that it should be power on and install operating system and software. IF it doesn't POST there is a 99.999999999999999999% chance that something didn't get plugged in or seated properly.

Buy parts, set aside an afternoon/evening, log on skype voice/cam, and I'll walk you through the whole build process.

Sounds good. I will hold you to that. I am getting some money from selling various things, so when I get all the parts ordered and what not, I will get with you. Now I am off to go grab some cheap but good stuff to hopefully keep it under $500-$600.
As far as building from scratch, what's the best way to obtain a copy of Windows 7/8 or any other OS? I really don't feel like purchasing it brand new because of how expensive it could be, but i'm not sure it would be simple to obtain a copy another way.
