should he stick with just a FX-6300, if he really wants to cut cost i dont see why he would need an 8320

nah, 8320 is a lot better of a CPU and it excels in multi-threaded tasks, such as streaming. 8320 doesn't cost that much more either.

IPCs per cores suck on AMD CPUs.
Trust us, he needs those cores.
Plus the 8320 is only 139 right now, 20 bucks more than the 6300.

DONT DO IT!!! you will have to pay taxes on everything you buy there, this is not the issue online. What you see as the price online is the price you pay. You will pay way more if you try to purchase everything from them.

Why not Newegg? A lot of their hardware will get shipped out of TN and arrive overnight. Best Buy has a very small and overpriced selection of core components. It's not like a Fry's or Microcenter.

It's going to be a few months before I can purchase any/everything. I am pretty much waiting for tax return season to get here to look at getting the parts. I'm sure prices will flux between now and then, but maybe I can get those things cheaper if new hardware is released between now and then.

Best Buy's selection on parts if you are building your own sucks. Period. Order from Newegg or if there is a Microcenter within an hours drive go there.

completed my build. when I go to turn on the pc, the fans and power button led light turn on for a fraction of a second then cut off
is this a mobo issue or the power supply
I disconnected everything from mobo and reconnected, and still having same problem. double checked all my conections/wiring and everything is good

thanks, i did that via both the battery and jumper method but pc still wont power on
swapped my psu with my brother's psu and it did the exact same thing. any ideas as to what could be causing the issue?
should I just take everything off the mobo and reseat it ?
edit: So basically when I push the power button, the motherboard receives power for less than a second--enough for the power button LED light to come on for a second and the cpu, case, or whatever other fan it plugged in to start up but kill after that second
im looking online but having trouble finding solutions other than "take it completely apart and put it back together again" or "get a new motherboard"
any advice would be appreciated

Are you certain that everything is plugged in? Pics of your connections with good lighting would be very helpful.
Once I can verify that, your next step is to remove all but one RAM module.
I've seen this problem quite a few times in my day, and most of the time the motherboard was the culprit, but need to verify everything is connected properly.
Sometimes doing a rebuild is good advice.

This sounds like a memory issue.
1. Leave ONLY 1 STICK in the first socket.
2. Reset CMOS
3. Turn On Again
4. I bet it boots up.
5. Repeat steps 1 thru 3 until all RAM modules are in
I have encountered this multiple times with cheap or "cheaper" MOBOs and RAM.

I ended up reseating everything and doing connections over.
computer turns on and stays on. made a little bit of typical start up noise. all its doing is running the case fans and power led lights. i'm not getting any dvi signal to see anything on the monitor
cpu cooler fan also not running. it was previously spinning during the half second start up
also cannot turn it off unless I cut the power via psu switch
currently going through this no boot checklist

Odd about the CPU fan. Make sure it's connected to the proper CPU fan header securely.
Getting closer to pretty much confirming it's the motherboard. However, the fact that it is behaving differently after reconnecting everything is interesting. You are sure that your Power Switch and Reset Switch cables are connected to the headers properly?
Boot it with one stick of RAM in the first slot. If it does the same thing, remove that stick and try a different one. If it does the same thing, move that stick to the second slot and try again.
Another thing to try: I don't remember what your CPU is, but if you have an integrated video option, please remove your video card and try booting with integrated video as well.
Another question: What's your motherboard? And do you have an internal speaker for it, or does it least display an LED read-out of post codes?
If it's still not working, please post some pics of your connections. I know it's a pain in the arse and you would like to exhaust every possible option before doing that, but it might be worth the trouble. Another poster here had an issue with his new build, and we asked him constantly to post photos. He ended up driving from New Orleans to my house in Baton Rouge so that I could help him fix it. Once I saw the PC, the problem was obvious, and most of us could've pointed it out if he had just posted some photos.
