if people believe LTC and other Alt Coins are going to greatly appreciate in value, the extra $100-200 spent on hardware far outweighs the lost mining time in waiting for new stuff to get in stock.

as for buying a 7950/70 at an inflated price vs a 280x, they likely havent done any research. people just read a blog that says the 7950 is the card to get for mining and they go out and get one - they dont look at alternatives.

Im probably setting up an amazon sellers account this afternoon and going to list my 7950. i have a feeling the profit ill make from the sale of that card will out do any potential profit from mining part time

Z87/Z77 only has 16 PCIe 3.0 lanes, so it would be running in x8/x4/x4. However, it doesn't seem to be all that crippling.

Did you miss my benchmark post last week?

Did a 3dmark11 run.

My 7970s were at their everyday gaming clocks (1200/1600 on both), and the HIS 280x was at 1040/1500. The "stock" clocks of this 280x was 1000/1500, but 1040 was the sweet spot for hash rates, so I left it there just because.

Here's my result of a test run I did a while back with my 7970s at their typical daily speeds.

And here's what happens when I add the 280x.

I still need to thoroughly test more games. I only ran a couple games for just a few minutes before going back to mining. It scales beautifully in BF4, and so-so and a little stuttery in AC4. No big surprise there. AC4 is an NVidia-paid-to-cripple-AMD game, and BF4 is an AMD-paid-to-cripple-Nvidia game.

What card are you going to get if you sell it?

I really don't want to spend much money right now so probably just a 760. I'm really just trying to take advantage of the value I have for selling it now.

You will need 2x760s to even utilize anything above 2GB VRAM.

I say get the cheaper 2GB card. Baby Kepler has some weird way it uses anything above 2GB which actually slows down performance anyway.

That is almost my 2xTitan lvl.... very nice! I actually never got a 3DMark to pass because i've always crashed on the Physics test with this damn 4930K. Only stock settings allow me to pass it.
