Last time I checked benches, the 770 outperformed the 7970 slightly. The 7970 is already out of production, and that price is too much. you're better off ebaying one. If you can find an ebay 770 for nearly as cheap as an ebay 7970 (GHz/OC edition), you should get the 770. Otherwise, get the 7970. Memory is not that important right now at 1080p. And no matter what card you choose of those two, you will be looking for used cards if you want to SLI/crossfire a year from now.

I'm not sure how into tv's you guys are but how much experience and knowledge do you guys have with led? I've always been a plasma guy. I have been skeptical of a tv above 60hz since movies are only in 24 fps. I don't know what regular tv is or sports but they aren't above 60fps. I was at best buy yesterday and asked to see the difference but all they showed me was a crappy demo with barely any motion. I just got a hold of a tv with 120 hz, I turned it on and off and didn't really see a difference. Has anyone messed with this to see the difference?

It's hard to beat a good plasma.
The 120Hz TVs use to bug my eyes with how it felt like the background wasn't connected to the foreground, almost like a weird 3D effect (not a 3dtv.) Don't know if anyone else has ever seen that in the picture, but now I don't notice it with ours.

With certain things it does seem off. It's a shame plasma got a bad reputation because it is far superior. And now panasonic isn't making their plasma anymore

Yeah I don't get it either. Plasma just has an amazing picture, but people only care what it takes to keep up with the Joneses and the Joneses want LED with whatever the highest MHz or other keywords some college kid at Best Buy or HHGregg is preaching about this week.

I want to go work at best buy so there can be one person that doesn't spout out stupid shite. Of course I would eventually get pissed off and frustrated probably by the end of my first day. I would then quit and be out of a job. Those guys just piss me off because they say incorrect shite a lot.

They will stick you in another department. I worked at Best Buy throughout college. They don't want knowledgeable in those areas, they want sales. They don't care how much you know about TVs or computers, they just want you to sell the shite. Stick to the buzzwords. I was always in movies/cds/games. Where they stuck people who they wanted to punish with trying to sell shitty cd cases. Nobody wants to fricking buy that garbage.
I don't blame them, I was terrible at selling. I was good at figuring out random bits of shite people remember from games/cds/movies to find them what they wanted.

For a while I thought I wanted to be a Geek Squad person, but having heard from other Geek Squad (current and former) employees, it's mostly software sales rather than computer repair. Having tried to converse with the Geek Squad folks at my local Best Buy, I'm pretty sure I would kill myself within the first couple of hours.

You would, they don't do anything major or challenging. Anything beyond a very basic scope gets shipped off to another facility to get fixed.
The worst for me was selling Monster Cables. As someone who was studying to be an electrical engineer at the time, I felt terrible about lying my face off to try to sell that garbage. If I didn't try to sell it, I would get written up and could get fired.

Most things are shot on film (24fps) -- movies, primetime TV shows, etc. -- rather than 60i or 30p video, which is what low-budget shows use(soap operas, most famously, but also reality shows).. 120Hz+ TVs have a feature that simply adds frames in between actual frames to help reduce motion blur and smooth out judder. Depending on the brand, it might be called "Clear Frame" or "Smooth Motion" or some buzzword like that -- all terms for "Motion Interpolation."
We've been used to watching our movies and tv shows at 24fps, so any departure from that is going to seem weird. It's worse because these shows are still filmed at 24fps, so the synthetic smoothing with Motion Interpolation makes it look unnatural -- like you're watching the "making of" a movie rather than the final product. It's most commonly known as the "Soap Opera effect." It can make sports look better, but with most everything else it looks cheap.
ETA: I have a 120Hz TV at home, and I disabled that clearframe crap immediately -- so the 120Hz is essentially pointless. TV technology is way ahead of actual TV content, much like PC hardware is ahead of what software can take advantage of, but TVs won't sell unless they appear theoretically better each year. I don't buy into it much, though. I replace my TVs when they break.

IDK we could disable it. I have a 240hz but is only a true 120hz. Like you said, it shows basically 2frames at the same time. The image looks just fckking strange sometimes and the GF hates it.
I'm going to look into it.
