might have asked a question about this a while back but I'm just revisiting trying to get this HP laptop my dad gave me a couple years ago to be useful. Starting a photography business and wanted something to use out in the field for light editing.

It's an HP 15-dw51081wm. The damned thing is so slow and underpowered that it barely can boot up and launch an internet browser.

4GB DDR4
500 GB HDD
1.1 GHz processing speed

But it has a great HDR capable monitor and would be perfect if I can upgrade it a bit. The hard drive would be fine....not great....but fine for what I need and I can throw a couple of 8GB sticks in it for $30. But I'm guessing that processing speed is just going to make it pretty useless right? Adobe Lightroom recommends 3 GHz.

We could give advice to make it a passable old person email machine, but as far as photo editing, no, there's nothing you can do to bring that device to anything resembling reasonable productivity.

Thanks. Once I saw the specs on it.....I pretty much knew it wasn't much more than a paperweight. What a complete ripoff by HP to shite out this laptop.

Just picked up a 5080 and I am waiting for it to arrive.

I was curious about one thing. Since they eliminated physX for some older games on the 50 series, could I keep my 3070 installed alongside and set it as a designated physX card or would that end up creating complications?

Ultimately, I think I’m cool with ripping off the bandaid and losing access to a handful of titles but I just wanted to explore all my options.

I might own and want to have future access to about five of those. I just hate arbitrarily losing access to titles. Oh well.

Just seeing this article from August. Have we talked about this yet??

RTX 50 series Super leak says we can expect more VRAM for the same price as the original GPUs

PCGuide-RTX 50 series Super leak

I guess we'll find out if they come out, but would the increased RAM make the 5080 more attractive at the $1K price point?

I don’t buy individual equities, and even if I did I wouldn’t talk about them on the Gaming Board, but hasn’t NVDA trounced AMD over both five and single year time horizons?

It wouldn’t for me, but very well might for some.

I think the 5080 Super will be at or very close to 4090 performance and they’ll charge $1,200 -$1,300… I sincerely doubt they’ll sell a consumer card with 24GB of VRAM and the nvidia software suite for $1,000 or less.

To build on that, I think a 5080S with 50% more vram becomes a really interesting production card for people who can’t justify a 5090. Just doesn’t move the needle for me in gaming.

So over five years, NVDA isn’t up 1,264% compared to AMD’s 137%? And over 12 months, NVDA isn’t up 49% compared to AMD’s 19%?

With this recent spike, AMD has overtaken NVDA over the last six months, 138% to 98%, but that’s not what I see over those two aforementioned longer timelines. Are you seeing something different?

He can't admit NVDA has been objectively better, and we all know he's going to deflect to calling us NVDA fan boys.

You want both of them in your portfolio

I technically have both, simply because I only invest in broad index funds, but I just find the "flexing" weird
