Holly shite and the last part of the timing. Mistype or is that real?

I'm at 5500mhz with just enhanced PBO. Although, I don't see much sense in trying to get more out of it with my current GPU. Curve optimizer seems stable at -28. Can't overclock my GPU due to 200 watt limiter.

Wait until you start playing around with secondary and tertiary timings. That’s when the fun really starts

It's real. You can get tras crazy low now on DDR5.

I did all of them. The guide was for all like 50 settings for that shite took awhile.

I don't see trying to squeeze more out of my cpu or ram until my GPU gets better, but holy shite, that's nuts.

Well make sure for cpu you disable c-states in bios and go into USB and also disable xhci handoff.

What did it say about setting tRAS?

Ever since you first posted your primary timings, that tRAS timing struck me as odd, and especially because I don’t remember spending much time on it when I was OCing/tuning my RAM. I kept thinking “I want to say that was just a straight formula…” but it had been so long that I couldn’t recall. Just looked it up, and now I understand why. Having a tRAS lower than CL + tRCD basically gets ignored for a simple reason: CL and tRCD must complete before the tRAS time as tRAS is the amount of time a row needs to be active to have data read from it. CL is the delay from request to ready to read and tRCD is read time. The row can’t be active for less time than those combined. So regardless of what your motherboard is allowing for input for tRAS, with CL at 30 and tRCD at 36, your tRAS is running at or above 66.

Eta: The above is at least to my understanding. RAM is half voodoo to me. If anyone knows better, feel free to correct me.

Are you thinking tRC maybe? Not sure on ram either just followed buildzoid and HU guides.

VSOC: 1.25V

Timings
tCL: just use XMP
tRCD: just use XMP
tRP: just use XMP
tRAS: 30*
tRC: 68
tWR: 48
tREFI: 50000
tRFC: 500
tRFC2: 400
tRFC4: 300
tRTP: 12

tRRD_S: 4
tFAW: 20
tWTR_L: 16
tWTR_S: 6
tRDRDSCL: 4
tRDRDSC: 1

No, tRC is another formulaic one, though. It’s tRP + tRAS. Just so happened that because your CL and tRAS are both set to 30 that the ultimate equation would come out to 68.

Oh okay, it does say at the bottom that bios updates lately moved it from 28 to 30 for a minimum as 28 put it below cl30 prior. So you are probably correct otherwise they wouldn't change that I'd think. Could have been causing issues putting it below at 28 tras.

Planning next build. I'm very behind on mobos - what is the best out there for AM5?

I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and go 4090 + 7800X3D

I wouldn’t spend more than like $300 for a mobo… just find an MSI or Gigabyte X670 board that has as many m.2 slots and fan headers you need.

MSI is what I'm leaning towards. Not doing Asus again

Honestly, he could probably get away with a B650 board, as long as it has the features he needs. x3D chips can’t (really) be overclocked and aren’t particularly RAM sensitive, so beefy VRM isn’t really necessary. And contrary to what the marketing might say, we aren’t going to need PCIe Gen 5 x16 for another decade. We are barely saturating Gen 3 x16 at this point.

My friend went with that exact mobo for his build and has had no issues. And yea you don't "need" to go x670.... you could save money and go the B650 route... but if you are already going for a 4090 build... what's another $50 for some extra features you may want or use.

But... make sure you are a case chad and build in a Phanteks NV7 or NV5... cleanest cases on the market

Phanteks makes a good case. This may be unpopular, but I built in the NZXT H7 Flow. It came out clean, and I used the NZXT halo rgb fans. I have pretty good thermals on the heat beast 11900K.
