I'm not sure if it's accurate to say that the XTX is "fairly close" to the 4090, as the latter is a 20% performance increase over the former in pure rasterization, much less RT, but I appreciate that subjective language is subjective. I also doubt, though very sincerely hope, that 3D v-cache will give a 20% performance increase, as your cited 20% increase for CPUs isn't a median, much less across the board, and is skewed a bit by some extreme outliers in performance, and I say that as someone who will probably buy an x3D chip in the next year or two.
But even if you're right, and the future v-cache AMD GPU gives 20% uplift over the XTX, all that does is bring it equal to the 4090 in rasterization. Assuming the 4090ti variant gets a 5-8% boost over the 4090, which I think is a touch conservative considering how much of the die was cut down, that still puts the 4090ti 5-8% above the v-cache AMD card. But I hope I'm wrong and AMD blows the doors off of Nvidia. Though considering that their pricing is roughly as shitty as Nvidia's this cycle, I don't have particularly high hopes.

Yeah there are too many variables. They'll likely be neck and neck like last gen.
20% 3D gains, double the infinity cache, more shaders.
Then add in the 3.5-3.7GHz OC potential and how well OCing scales with infinity cache on the cpu side and yeah, may even beat a 4090ti.

I hope so, but I just don’t see it this gen. Now, if the chiplet design “ages like fine wine” a la Zen… then next gen might be a hell of a thing.

I wouldn't expect you to.
Now for the rest of us without green glasses, very easy to see how AMD can win the performance crown for a 2nd straight gen.

If you're going to say the XTX gets close to the 4090 based on that chart, then you can say the 4080 gets even closer to the XTX

I discuss, praise, and insult both companies as warranted. You breathlessly praise AMD and post shocked head shaking emotes. Your incessant projection on the subject of shilling is more than a little tiresome, so can we leave the personal slights out of it going forward?

I'm almost glad that AMD is behind the mind-share on this.
Most people shitting on them are only waiting for Nvidia to lower prices.
It's gonna be a FAFO for those peeps.

Man the Asus TUF 7900XTX is a fricking beast! Seems to be the best AIB card so far. The cost per frame is even better than a 3070ti.
I think this may be the one to get when the 7950XTX3DXTXTX drops.

Very solid card in rasterization, though I’m curious to see if the price to performance ratio holds up once the price is actually announced. They assumed an $1,100 price point. And while that might hold, the 4080 TUF OC saw a $200 increase over MSRP, so it wouldn’t exactly surprise me to see a $1,200 list price once it goes live.
And it’s quite the indictment of the price points of both companies this generation that we apparently no longer fully expect each generation to be significantly better in price to performance than the previous generation, especially a sku that was as panned on price as the 3070ti

Epic Games to Pay More Than Half a Billion Dollars over FTC Allegations of Privacy Violations and Unwanted Charges

quote:
Epic ignored more than one million user complaints and repeated employee concerns that “huge” numbers of users were being wrongfully charged. In fact, Epic’s changes only made the problem worse, the FTC alleged. Using internal testing, Epic purposefully obscured cancel and refund features to make them more difficult to find.

I don’t understand why Epic almost insists on being an unlikable dumpster fire.

Josh. When should I start looking for motherboard and processor upgrades? What price range am I looking at?

Those two questions are related

Remind me, have we talked about your usage case yet? If so, feel free to link me to it. If not, then I can ask you a bunch of questions

wut
What do you play, at what resolution and settings? What’s your budget range, low and high? Do you have any specific needs?
Eta: I didn’t mean pc case; I meant usage case as in how you use your PC

My God
Game wise I'm all over the board. Indie games with low requirements. Call of Duty. Dabbling with various MMOs. Anything.
Computer mainly for casual gaming. Resolution is 1080. No real needs I can think of.
Budget wise is flexible. I guess it depends. Would like to spend less than $1000 on everything.

$1,000 for a new build is tough, but it can be done. This is what I just threw together:
PCPartPicker Part List: LINK
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600 3.5 GHz 6-Core Processor ($136.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: MSI B550-A PRO ATX AM4 Motherboard ($139.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory ($59.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: SK Hynix Gold P31 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive ($83.39 @ Amazon)
Video Card: Gigabyte GAMING OC Radeon RX 6750 XT 12 GB Video Card ($379.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow ATX Mid Tower Case ($89.99 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: Corsair RM750x (2021) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($99.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $990.33
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Down the road, if you find yourself CPU bound, you'll get a significant performance jolt by slotting in a 5800x3D. And while 750w PSU is a touch lower than would be my ideal, it's plenty for this build and gives you enough room for GPU upgrades in the future, even if it would preclude you from upgrading to the most power hungry GPUs.

So if I focus on mobo, processor, and video card:
AMD Ryzen 5 5600 3.5 GHz 6-Core Processor ($136.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: MSI B550-A PRO ATX AM4 Motherboard ($139.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: Gigabyte GAMING OC Radeon RX 6750 XT 12 GB Video Card ($379.99 @ Newegg)
Is that feasible if I keep my original ram and psu? I guess that's all else right?
SSD may be nice instead of HDD though...
That's still like $700ish

If you're still on spinning rust, let's please fix that asap

As for the rest, post the specs/skus of all of your current components. I'll see if we can salvage anything, and if so, we can make some decisions either on saving money or upgrading components a bit while still staying within your price target.
