Under 4K resolution, 6800XT wins over 3080/3070 in most games. 4K goes to 3080 but it hits 10GB VRAM limit quickly so not good for 4K either, but 20GB variant back in the rumor mill lately for January at $999. AMD runs cooler with less power across the board thanks to the better chip and process.

Testing I have seen on real world rigs show them trading wins at 1440p for the most part. VR wise the 3080 is winning most. This generation I would go green with DLSS and RTX, I don’t see the consoles gaining them much ground this gen. I’d give red another generation unless the difference in price matters a lot to you. Red definitely made up the ground, hopefully this makes green push their design more and compete price wise in the future. It’s a good year for new PCs if we had the stock to actually build them lol. Still waiting on that 5900x or 5950x for my 3090.

All depends on what you want to do.

6800XT is more powerful than the 3080 and overclocks have set a new standard in PC gaming with 2.6GHz+ OC averages on air, with the 6900XT about to break the record all over again next week. All of this on a better chip and a better process doing so more efficiently at less power.

So it just depends really. I love to tinker, I take apart my CPU's and GPU's and repaste before I even install them. I want to OC and squeeze every little ounce out of it and benchmark the shite out of it.

Since the 30xx basically can't OC/has little to no headroom, and once OC vs OC is taken into account the AMD cards win in just about every game in the 30 game test and even beats the 3090 as well, I'll get it. Gonna try for 6900XT but 0.1% chance I can get one.

I'm fine with chilling into January though until I can get one at MSRP which is cheaper than the less performing for me, 3080 offering.

DLSS is great, no doubt. It will be replaced by AMD's offering that is open source and heading to consoles, but that is still months away.

Just not what I have been seeing from friends rigs. They are trading blows. Both are great cards. DLSS and RTX are just too nice right now. If I had to stick with a card for more than a gen, this would be a much tougher call for me though.

3090 isn’t a surprise, if you are buying it for gaming you are doing things wrong. It’s a rendering monster. Gonna save me a lot of time if I can ever get a damn cpu.

If you're someone upgrading yearly or so regardless, then yeah definitely matters a lot less. Especially with how hard it is to get one, just keeps getting closer and closer to new ones next year.

11 game OC vs OC test 6800XT wins almost all of them, and most by double digit FPS. AMD also has better frametime performance in most.

That OC ability is just too strong. 2.6GHz is nutty, waterblocked you can do 2.8GHz, 6900XT 3GHz. All this while Nvidia tops at 2.1GHz max. The test above AMD is hitting 2.6 and Nvidia 2.05. That is a very large clock difference. Just like up until this year Intel at 5GHz still led in gaming over AMD Ryzen largely due to the 4.2GHz clocks and little OC room from Ryzen.

The 6900XT at it's 2.8-3GHz OC range is going to be absolutely bonkers which is why I'm now considering it worth the $999 and going to try and get one by some miracle.

Or you can wait until you get what you want? It’s not like the 6800/6800xt are in stock anyways. Also it looks like all the AMD AIBs are directly inflating their prices so it’s more for a 6800xt than it is for a 3080 if you can get your hands on one.

AMD paper pricing on 6800xt

From strictly non-RT related performance, AMD has a very compelling product right now.

The pricing is all fricked though for several reasons. AMD is using TSMC for their PS5/Xbox chips, Ryzen 5000 7 NM chips, and now their RX 5000/6000 series GPUs.

I still think either AMD or Nvidia right now gets you great performance one way or the other, but if you need RT, definitely go Nvidia.

EDIT: Like I said, its really, whatever you can get your hands on.

The entire PC market right now is fricked because so many people are still WFH or quarantined, so processors and GPU prices are just so messed up.

Microcenters are starting to hold stock of the new CPU's for awhile. Stock is catching up pretty quick there which is normal for CPU's, whole lot more of them.

If you want a 5800X you can find them. 5900X different story still.

Early 3060ti reviews are very disappointing. I have a 2070 Super and I’m probably not upgrading at this point.

nobody really upgrades from a one gen to the next by going down.

And I’ve seen nothing but good things at that price even beating a 2080 super

Well it's $100 cheaper than the 2070 super was, right?

The reviews I saw looked good. 50% performance uplift over 2060 super, and 20% performance uplift over 5700xt--the previous champ at that price point. And about 12% lower than the 3070 for $100 less.

Yes, but right now, you would be lucky to get one at $399 judging how the 3070 and 3080 releases went.

Its more closer to 10-11% better than the 5700xt, which is still good, but I was sort of hoping for more. The 2000 series in general was a very poorly priced group. The 2060 Super actually was terrible value at $400, compared to the 5700xt, and the 2070 Super.

Actually I see the opposite. Best price/performance card out there right now. Short of when 6700XT probably comes out which will be primary competition there.

It easily beats a 2070 Super by a good bit and was still like 4-7% faster than 2080 Super at various resolutions. So slightly better than previous gen $700 performance for $400 now is a nice improvement. Not as great as the 2080Ti performance going down to $500 basically for a 3070, but for $400 still a really good value and hardware unboxed best price per frame performing card right now. Also, 8 GB VRAM buffer easier to swallow at $400 vs. $500 for the 3070, especially when you start trying to play 4k in some games.

Hmm... maybe I watched a few negative ones. I'll go watch the GamersNexus and Hardware Unboxed reviews.

alright guys, i've got a dilemma. the wife got me an LG 27UL500 4K monitor. awesome, right? well, its' only 60hz. i got my resolutions mixed up accidentally put it on my wishlist on amazon. shared the list with my wife and it was the only monitor out of 3 on my list that was in stock. would y'all still keep it and play on it? or would you return it?

i was thinking it was a 1440p/144hz monitor but like i said, i got my resolutions mixed up.
