Anyone picked up any deals today? Only thing I found was another UPS to throw in with my servers

Nvidia is still the way to go

Whatever card you can get your hands on first is the way to go.
Unless you specifically need good RT performance, AMD has a very good product right now.

Or you can wait until you get what you want? It’s not like the 6800/6800xt are in stock anyways. Also it looks like all the AMD AIBs are directly inflating their prices so it’s more for a 6800xt than it is for a 3080 if you can get your hands on one.

Absolutely not. AMD has made the greatest overclocking GPUs in history.
Hell we just learned yesterday the 6900XT is the first gpu ever to hit 3GHz on air. I may try for it next week afterall. Less stock than 6800 series though.
I just want to spend a week overclocking like crazy.

AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT: max GPU clock of 3GHz, should stomp on RTX 3090
quote:
the Radeon RX 6900 XT has a GPU clock of up to 3GHz -- annihilating the ~2.4GHz on the Radeon RX 6800 XT reference card and ~2.65-2.75GHz on custom AIB models of the Radeon RX 6800 XT.

Isn't it only like a 4% bump in performance though from non OC to OC? Even smaller from Rage mode to Manual OC.

No GN was seeing double digit gains last night across the 3 AIB's he was OCing. Absolutely obliterated any Nvidia offering but the 30xx series basically can't OC so.

TLDR from reddit

TL;DR:
This my first time doing one so apologies in advance.
The RX 6800 and 6800 XT are legitimate competition for the RTX 30 series cards in rasterization performance and has massively improved power efficiency as compared to previous AMD products.
16 VRAM was a waste. They should've gone for 8 GB.
Nvidia still has a massive, commanding lead in RT performance. AMD really needs close the gap because as the industry transitions more and more to RT the justifications to run rasterization benchmarks become fewer and fewer.
DLSS is still a killer feature that AMD currently can't match and, like with RT performance, they really need to make up some ground here.
Compares the 6800 and XT to the Vega 56 and 64. Gets "Vega 56 vibes" from 6800. Says this is more of a "watch this space" release, not a "Ryzen moment".

Under 4K resolution, 6800XT wins over 3080/3070 in most games. 4K goes to 3080 but it hits 10GB VRAM limit quickly so not good for 4K either, but 20GB variant back in the rumor mill lately for January at $999. AMD runs cooler with less power across the board thanks to the better chip and process.
Ray tracing Nvidia has a lead since it's been out for 2 years, but in a few months time will be about the same once the consoles start using it and we see that optimization advantage.
6900XT on the 8th will have less stock than 6800 had so good luck, monster card though.
All in all? Huge win for AMD, and the stock has hit over $92/s again.

Gonna have garbage drivers probably
Posted on 11/30/20 at 5:40 pm to Hu_Flung_Pu
I doubt it, since the architecture is now shared with the consoles for PC and console development. I guess they could crash like crazy and then be forced to downclock the cards like Nvidia.
Likely to see better drivers on AMD going forward actually, console development matters!

Isn’t the ps5 having issues?
Posted on 11/30/20 at 5:42 pm to Hu_Flung_Pu
No clue, no interest in the consoles.
Posted on 11/30/20 at 5:58 pm to UltimateHog
But aren’t they amd backed?
Posted on 11/30/20 at 6:01 pm to Hu_Flung_Pu
No, they are Sony and Microsoft backed.
Posted on 11/30/20 at 6:06 pm to UltimateHog
So why are you confident in the drivers?
One X had AMD

The replies in this thread now have me somewhat glad that I’m just buying Carson’s prebuilt with the 3800X and plugging my 1070 in until I can decide what to do on processor/gpu.
Let’s me wait to see how intel does on next gen and let the dust settle on the new cards because all I’ve been getting from this thread and reviews is that “reasonable minds could differ” on the winner

They all have AMD. PS4 XBO PS5 XSX. Console optimization is superior and that's why still today most PC games that are multiplats are ports of the console version.
So for PC it's great that they're on the same architecture with simplified development between them. Xbox is bringing over a ton of games to PC with Game Pass PC and even without it. Sony is starting to bring a few with more on the way. This will help greatly.
HZD ran like absolute dog shite on PC for sooo long. Hopefully shite like that doesn't happen in the future now.
