Hdmi 2.1 isn't needed and will be dead on the next GPUs for DP2.0 just like the previous hdmi versions. DP2.0 is double the bandwidth and required for 8K 60 which Nvidia already advertises for a bit.
I really wouldn't worry about it, it's not the future in any way other than for televisions/consoles that don't use DP.

With 16K video and VR-friendly data transfer speeds, DisplayPort 2 looks to be future-proof. It’s possible that we won’t see an upgrade to the video standard for another decade.

good to know. but shouldn't I wait for DP2.0 monitors then? or is it backwards compatible

Ampere doesn't have DP2.0 I don't believe, so you're probably 2 years away from seeing it for GPUs even if monitors use it early next year.
There's some rumors the TI's/Supers down the road will have it though.

What application is going to bottleneck on hdmi 2.1?
Posted on 10/3/20 at 10:57 pm to Raz
What? HDMI 2.1 is pretty irrelevant the day DP2 drops. Idk why you have such a hard on for it, displayport will always be the PC gaming choice. HDMI is centered around televisions, whereas VESA centers DP around PC's. That's why you see GPU's with 3 displayports to one HDMI. Plus it's a free open standard and runs better with GSync/Freesync displays since VRR is also VESA's.

Dude what is with your attitude responding to my posts? Always some hyperbolic emotional attack.

Just the truth. You have had a hard on about it for a month. Don't be so soft.

Well it is officially Zen 3 week, reveal is on Thursday. Rumor is October 20th release.
AMD officially hit 25% market share in Steam Survey and is gaining 1% per month, a very good clip. Now set to take the gaming market for the foreseeable future as well.
There is also a rumor that to combat Intel Tiger Lake, AMD is going to tease the next APU's with Zen 3 cores and Navi RDNA2 GPU. The mobile market is getting wild.

Lisa Su continues to achieve win after win in the CPU market arena, with Steam's Hardware Survey now reporting a 25% market share for AMD processors, with that figure growing every month at a rate of 1%. Now on the brink of a new CPU launch, AMD is decidedly pushing its new Ryzen 5000 series CPUs as gaming CPUs first, something AMD has never done.

Loving the new tech in Big Navi, some real cool leaps in there.
Infinity Cache is a game changer.
Think I may end up with Zen 3 + 6900XT, unsure if I'll go 5800X or 5900X have to wait for benches and OC results. Grab an x670 mobo, new case, and the Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus 1TB.
Fastest SSD in the world, narrowly edging out the new Samsung 980 Pro.

Thanks to the Phison PS5018-E18 SSD controller and TLC NAND flash memory, the Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus reaches a maximum sequential read speed of 7000Mbps and a maximum sequential write speed of 6850Mbps. This is two times more than what your average PCIe 3.0 SSD can do in both sequential reading and sequential writing.
