Yeah it's tricky with monitors right now still. Their picture quality gets dwarfed by decent TV's, but TVs are still too big for most setups like the CX 48".
I've seen quite a few PC setups with the 48" CX mounted flush to a wall a few feet behind the desk and it looks amazing but too big for me.

yeah I think 48" is too big. Anything in the 30s and I would buy
so many people on reddit saying they cant wait to push their CXs. do they really use that big mf or do they have couch pc setups? wild lmao
ETA: yeah that's just too much

I've seen a ton using it a few feet away mounted to a wall behind their desk yeah.
Best bang for your buck sure, monitors won't come close to that picture quality for ages. If they'd make a 43" I'd honestly probably go that route but oled and scaling = rip to smaller sizes.
Not to mention just on the surface $1500 for a 48" TV is still overpriced.

Yea 27" is the max for me. I sit so close to my monitor, anything bigger would be way to much screen to keep my eyes on

Yeah I'm team 27" max as well. I mean I'd do a 32" if I had to to get what I want but prefer 27".
Posted on 9/2/20 at 1:52 pm to UltimateHog
32 seems perfect for me. I read that it was bare minimum what you want for 4k
Posted on 9/2/20 at 1:54 pm to Carson123987
27" is fine for 4K, you'll find plenty that prefer it to 32" as you will the other way around. Higher PPI, clearer text to name a few reasons. Also depends on how far away you sit.
decent thread on it

I'm maybe a foot and a half away from my monitor
Posted on 9/2/20 at 2:00 pm to bluebarracuda
Yeah same, 27" all day or fry your eyes.
Posted on 9/2/20 at 2:11 pm to UltimateHog
I can see 32" at 4k if I'm not playing mmos or fast paced games. Too much screen info for my liking for those types of games.

For you baws looking to upgrade to an RTX 30 series, theres a bunch of rumors right now in the tech world that this is a VERY paper launch, after the initial release of cards.
So if you guys want one, you may want to get in pre-orders asap.
EDIT: This has to do with Nvidia concerns over yields of the Samsung 8nm process being used.

Hmm. Maybe I should just wait some more.
I hate being a guinea pig.

Yeah Samsung's foundry has been struggling lately, their 5nm is a total mess and has already lost them a few contracts (including a massive one in Qualcomm) and Nvidia is looking at other options themselves. This 8nm is actually 3 years old and equal to 10nm too.
Something to keep an eye on going into the next Gen after this. It is not a good time to be trying to switch foundries.

At 41, I can't tell the difference between 4k and 1080p at about 2.5-3' where I usually sit from my 27"ers. I doubt I will upgrade my monitors anytime soon because of it. Maybe if I get glasses, otherwise 1440p is fine for me right now. Have gsync, good colors, and high Hz, so I will stick with this for awhile.
Index is where I need the 3090. That and a lot of VR games do piss poor at clearing VRAM and eat my 1080TIs up.

HDR with a wide color gamut and good brightness matter way more to the eye than the resolution uptick.
Just now starting to get decent ones. Avoid anything HDR400 that's fake HDR, HDR600 and above only.
That's why this LG GN950 is at such a great spot and well priced to boot. Checks almost all the boxes.

I'm all about clean high framerates at high resolution. Thats probably the only problem with my monitor. It's advertised as 1440p/165hz, but you get terrible ghosting/smearing. 144hz it's perfect.
