Good news! Yesterday I also received a package from China that was scheduled to arrive in late February. Idt it was a China issue, looks like costumes opened and checked it out. It was just 4 power switches for some SBC projects.

So idk how much I agree with the bottom statement, but good news!

AMD introduces the Ryzen 9 4900H mobile chip.

8/16 at 45 watt TDP and 3.3GHz base clock 4.4GHz boost. This thing is a monster, new surface products appear to be using them as well.

Ffffuuuuuuucccckkkkkkkkk.

I just bent a few pins on my CPU socket. Put it back together to see if the computer was still ok aaaaaaand it isn’t. Trying to boot it makes it go through cycles of 3-4 seconds of trying to boot and shutting off.

I take it that now is time to start building a new computer?

Found a build list that was reasonably priced. I substituted the power supply and HDD for the ones I’ll use from my current computer(RIP).

I’m seeing in the comments where people are saying to go for the 1660 Super to save a few bucks. Any other suggestions other than that?

Anyone looking to upgrade to the Intel or AMD chips coming out soonish should be able to get one, AMD and Intel released statements that they fully plan to be able to meet chip demand despite the virus.

Kind of around the price of those parts listed but I’m a little flexible. I did go ahead and get the motherboard, cpu, and ram.

Buddy at work is concerned that the PSU I already have is on the cheap end and recommended upgrading. I’d obviously prefer to save that cash but any thoughts on that? I figure it should be ok since it’s way more powerful than what my build would need.

If that’s your price range for your GPU, id go with a 1660 Super. If you can spend a little more, a RX 5600 XT, or a $300ish RTX 2060 would be good for 1080p for years.

Yeah I thought I already SUV’s the SUPER in on that list but must have forgotten. Is the 2060 a bit of overkill with the rest of that build? If it is I’d rather save a bit now and eventually upgrade to that later down the road when it and other things gets cheaper.

It depends on what you want. A 1660 Super with a 2600 will be good for 1080p 60 Hz for quite a while.
