i guess based on my current list of parts i plan to buy, 1080p at 60 hz.
i definitely need a new monitor. i'm currently running to 24" LCD tvs with an old HP monitor. i may snag one on black friday or something.

Well a 1660 Ti would be best for 1080p 60hz. Wait until the Ryzen 5s come out next week and see how they compare to the i5 9400F ($140 at Microcenter).
If you don't mind buying used you can get a 1070 for around $225 on Ebay.
I'd buy this right now IF the Ryzen 3s weren't coming out next week.

i5 9400F + Gigaybte B360M ($180 bundle at Microcenter)
16 Gb (2x8 Gb) 2666 15 CAS ($60)
Samsung 860 Evo SSD ($79; M.2 version is $10 more)
EVGA 1660 Ti ($270)
Corsair 200R ($66)
EVGA B3 550W ($65)

That's basically what I have right now and I rarely drop below 60 FPS at 1080p on Ultra. I bump it down to High for certain games that aren't optimized well like Metro Exodus and Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

how future proof is the 1660ti vs the vega 56? i do plan on upgrading to a better monitor by the end of the year.

Then I'd probably get a Vega 56 since it's roughly the same price/cheaper.

I wouldn't even PC game at 1080p 60hz with no plans to upgrade. Stick to consoles. Such a waste.

would my current build plan not allow me to upgrade to a 144hz monitor and benefit from it?

here's my amazon wish list. don't mind the 2 ryzen cpus. they're just there to remind me to get the 3rd gen ryzen cpu.

Ditch that PSU. It's not even listed on LTT.
I'd get 3200 RAM for Ryzen too.

Is that PSU even 80+ rated?

I have a Corsair cx600 (non-modular, bronze rated) or something like that I can ship you for like $35

Don't know about that one either.

I've got the EVGA B3. It's tier B on there and is fully modular. $60 right now.

Idk anything about the compacitors in that unit. Quick Google search and they aren't the best with aging. But honestly if they age well within 5yrs who cares about anything after that, you will probably upgrade to modular by then one would think.

It's okay entry level.

Nope. Cables aren't even sleeved either.

EVGA make decent units now.

I'm a Super Flower and Seastone fanboy when it comes to PSUs. Most EVGAs are rebranded Super Flower PSUs.
