So much for having to wait a year for a 2080ti...

Boutique sellers like Digital Storm and MainGear are already taking pre-orders for systems with the 2080ti expected to ship around the 20th of September.

AMD CTO: 'We Went All In' On 7nm CPUs

quote:

AMD is betting big on its 7-nanometer processors, going so far as to move up the launch date of the technology, said CTO Mark Papermaster.

"We knew 7nm would be a big challenge, so we made the bet, we shifted our resources onto the new node"

"I think we do have the opportunity to be positioned much stronger than we originally anticipated," Papermaster said, "but I have to say our original plan was to be positioned very strongly, so any delay from our competitor could simply strengthen the value that AMD brings to the market."

As for AMD, Papermaster said the company's 7nm processors will see an improvement in performance and energy efficiency, the result of moving the chip's transistors closer to each other than AMD's current 14nm FinFET process node. The practical effect is that 7nm processors will provide "double the performance per watt of energy expended in a previous node."

"That's significant," he said.

"In reality, these are two companies that both have undeniable strength, and it's just very refreshing that there is competition for the CPU again, and it's spurred an arms race that our customers are really benefiting from," he said.

Will input lag ever be negated on freesync/g-sync monitors?

Serious question

Should I buy another Titan Xp and SLI them or just get rid of the one I have and try to get a 2080Ti with plans to SLI another one when inventory catches up?

Man I say 2080 Ti. That is what I'm doing in a month with my 2 x TITAN X Pascals. Not even going SLi from the start which will be the first time in like 6yrs. Tons of games don't even have support and if they do get support it is not at launch. The problem with not being at launch for me is I play most games at launch, so I bet them by the time SLi support comes 6months later.

From what I understand its not terrible on gsync but horrible with freesync. PCper did a good job with metrics years ago on this issue. Will try and find the article.

My experience with gsync was great but not for us. We usually have PCs that lock us at an fps we enjoy. They are all overpriced and don't have things I truly want in a monitor.

PCPer - Difference in GSync vs FreeSync

PCPer - More details

Edt: anyone ever take their ADD/ADHD medicine and then become hyper sensitive to input lag? I normally don't have an issue with it but when on Adderall I notice any delay.

Yeah that's really old, freesync has had a tad lower input lag than gsync for awhile now.

I don't really care. Nvidia is going to be supporting it soon anyways. They were fighting a losing battle from the start.

You sure?

The tech didn't change.

It they both still suck. No standard is better than the other for input lag. Looking for metrics but really non out there that I can find right now.

Still think you are mistaken. Again doesn't matter the age of the articles. The process of this tech didn't change. Freesync 2 is basically display port 2.0 adaptation from 1.2.

Edt: Gsync is surprior if you read about both techs. But it comes at a stupid price markup. nVidia needs to support both standards.

After more reading the input lag issues with might not be specific to gsnyc or freesync but windows. All the input lag tests seem marginal at best.

Please read those articles UH. PCper also did a good 30mins podcast on the tech if you can't read with Red glasses on.

It's not, freesync 2 is actually superior by a decent margin especially for new tech.

We've been over this when HDR and FreeSync 2 dropped.
