"How is that new resume coming along?"
"I've gotta take a break"
"How far did you get?"
"Job title"

Also, why did I buy this new Steam game 'House Flipper' and why is it addicting if not a bit boring?

How many fps does your Vega 56 get on it?
Posted on 7/9/18 at 2:09 pm to SpeedyNacho
It's not an FPS or graphical game, you literally just flip houses (rebuild walls, paint, remodel, etc).
That's my best Firestrike score, that was at launch of the 8700K I think. 5.2GHz at 1.42, delid + liquid metal, with an AIO H100i.
I daily drive 4.9 @ 1.28 all core. Max temps are like 57.

What CPU are you running these days?
Posted on 7/11/18 at 11:35 am to UltimateHog
Still rocking the 5960x

Hoping someone here can save me the research time -- a friend wants me to build him a small form factor workstation. Higher-end CPU with some standard overclocking, low-end graphics card. MicroATX or mITX, and overall needs to be quiet.
Just looking for the ideal SFF case and CPU cooler recommendations these days.
TIA

The problem with SFF is that there are many sizes of "SFF" cases.
This is with a Fractal Define Nano S, one of the best SFF cases, but one of the biggest SFF cases.
EDIT: I threw a bunch of storage options in there for you/him to pick from.

I don't need help with config, just want a cool and quiet SFF case and CPU cooler since I rarely work with SFF. That's why I gave the range of sizes from mATX to ITX. Size is flexible, just smaller than ATX.
EDIT: You didn't even recommend a cooler.

The 2700 comes with a cooler, which allows some decent overclocking with a stock cooler, but I can look up some other aftermarket air coolers if you want.
Posted on 7/13/18 at 9:59 pm to boXerrumble
I wouldn't associate stock cooler with quiet (though maybe Ryzen is the exception), and also not going AMD.

Okay. Well my buddy just built a PC with a 7820x and he used the Noctua DH15. Pretty ugly colors, but it does the job well.
Out of curiosity, why not AMD for the workstation? If your not gaming, a 2700/2700x is a pretty decent option.
EDIT: Only thing with Noctua coolers is that they are kinda expensive compared to other brands.
As far as cases, the Carbide Air 240 seems to have pretty decent reviews. You probably can't go wrong with a Fractal Micro ATX case like the Mini C.

He's an Adobe user, and it's notorious for being terribly inefficient at leveraging more than a few cores. Prefers fast cores over more cores. I'm showing him multiple configs at different budgets, and I'll probably throw in a Ryzen build. But ultimately it's up to him, and neither one is the wrong choice.

I love Noctua coolers. They are in every build but my main rig. I use a D15 in 2 of my rigs. For some odd reason I like the colors. Maybe because for years they made the only good fans outside of Typhoons.
Just upgraded my FreeNAS build with a 2700. Maybe he just wanted real performance and had the budget? Single core IPC is still important.

Noctua makes awesome stuff. I have two of their 120 mm fans in my build right now. Super quiet and high quality.

Lian li pc-tu100b is a badass itx case. Smallest case I've ever built in. Can fit a gtx 1070/1080 mini

That looks nice. He's gonna hate that handle though.
