Any games makes significant use of i7 or is i5 still the better bargain?

Supposed to have a 40% IPC increase from FX-8350 or 8320 (maybe). It would put the IPC roughly equivalent to a last-gen Intel chip... Unless the clock speed is severely reduced due to power or heat issues... Other than that, they're cramming in more cores for workstation/server computing I guess. I hope it's something great or at least reasonably competitive, but my expectations are low.

Well, BF4 multiplayer is a big one I suppose, but mainly that game (as well as any other game out there) just wants fast cores, however many it may be. That's why an i5 and an 8350 perform about the same in that game (if I recall correctly). Hell, even in a lot of traditional multithreaded applications (video editing and whatnot), the first 4 cores are still the bulk of performance.

For gaming, not worth the extra hundred bucks for the i7 (says me, an i7 owner).

Well I just found it odd you bought a multiplier-locked CPU to pair with a Z-series chipset, because you'd have to buy an entirely different CPU for any meaningful overclocking down the line, and there won't be a CPU worth upgrading to before the socket is EOL -- and the quality of the VRMs on that particular board would limit overclocking of a multiplier-unlocked CPU anyway. And only sort of weird you chose one that supported SLI but paired it with an AMD GPU that doesn't need 8/8 lanes for crossfire. Overall, the combo of components will perform well; it's just the reasoning behind them is a little skewed. Mainly, the lack of SSD will raise the most eyebrows though.

You might be able to, but Intel released a microcode update rolled into motherboard bios updates to block it. If your board comes with a more recent bios, you're possibly SOL. But also, an H-series board would be able to do it, too.

BCLK overclocking only, if the bios allows for it (not all H boards will support it).
