I saw this on reddit and laughed.

I'm gonna go for a 1440p build this summer after release of new gpus. But I think I want an IPS 144Hz freesync. I believe there is only one on the market right now.

Yeah, I have the Acer XG270HU 1440p 144Hz freesync right now, good display for being a TN panel.

But frick it I want 4K and have money.

There should be at least a couple new 1440p 144Hz monitors releasing over the next few months as the 2016 models start to come out, I'd imagine a few will be IPS this go around.

GF told me that there is no way in hell in putting a gaming pc in the office. So I'm gonna have to buy a small desk and put in my Workout/PS4 room. Good thing about having a 3 bedroom house with only two people.

I suppose I don't need a tv in there if I get like 27" monitor right? I mean I can use a the display port for pc and then hdmi to PS4. That'll work right?

Little Pascal is coming with GDDR5X. Might hold off until Big Pascal with HBM2.

Not much of a upgrade and too costly putting blocks on another 2 cards.

What garbage.. if true.

quote:

Pascal is the name we've all being hearing about, and along with this next-gen core we've been expecting HBM2 (second-gen High Bandwidth Memory). This makes today's rumor all the more interesting, as VideoCardz is reporting (via BenchLife) that a card called either the GTX 1080 or GTX 1800 will be announced, using the GP104 GPU core with 8GB of GDDR5X - and not HBM2.

Screw that. So what does this mean now, Big Pascal Q4? Good timing for me.

Yeah it better but feels more like a Q1 2017 February release if they are launching Little Pascal in May 2016.

Based on what we have seen since the launch of Big Kepler GK110 in Q1 2013, it might lay out close to the below.

2016 Q2 - Little Pascal GP104
2017 Q1 - Big Pascal GP100 TITAN
2017 Q2/Q3 - Big Pascal GP100 1080 Ti

LG 4K UHD 27UD88-W

Really nice looking monitor. Price is still just a little too high when you can buy a Korean for half that listing. Yes there is no Free/Gsync, but honestly haven't seen much use for it in my play style. I don't mind locking frames and playing @ 60-80fps.

Does this LG monitor go in portrait also?

Yeah, I really don't care about price, I don't find it too bad for the quality, 4K has come down a decent chunk especially a lot of the 2015 models. Just want one that has everything I want.

And yes it does

Also saw that article today, seems likely it's true, good track record with leaks there.

Obviously I give no fricks unless it means the 2016 Fury X will be HBM again instead of HBM2 but AMD is also well ahead there so I have no idea. If it's HBM2 I'll updgrade.

I usually don't give a shtt about price, just buy the best. Damn Koreans have spoiled me and I do want something bigger than 27" this go around. 31-32" is what i'm planning for the main display with a 27-28" in portrait to the side.

Now I do also love LG monitors and TVs for their aesthetics. Their panels are usually among the best or right up there with any other offering. Oddly they make the panels in most other monitor and TV brands. LG really does dominate the display market.

What I really want is OLED. I will pay $700-$1000 for a decent OLED monitor. Having purchased a 4K TV around Christmas (LG also), it is obvious the progression forward isn't simply with pixel density. The tech which will help produce a more vivid image without sacrificing color correction and darker truer blacks are where we should put the big money for display upgrades moving forward. Our best offerings for great image quality have been IPS panels for several years now. We are in need for newer tech like OLEDs to start making their way into gaming monitors.

We read rumors/reports 6 months ago about this HBM2 shortage or lack of enough supply for both AMD and nVidia to mainstream the modules. Guess those statements had been closer to the truth than we wanted to believe.

Honestly IDK how you would handle 4K with just 4GB VRAM. I'm on 1440 and the AAA titles in 2015 pushed the limits of my 6GBs. A heavy modded FO4 stays between 4-5.5GBs and Tomb Raider would often hit my 6144MB VRAM limit at 1440. Man 4K will be a mutha fckka.

The 2016 Fury X will have 32GB of HBM2 with 1TB/s of memory bandwidth per reports, I think she'll do fine.

There's also the Fury X2 launching next week

quote:

Dual Fiji XT GPU
– 8192 Stream Processor
– 8GB HBM (2x 4GB)
– 4096-bit Bus x2
– 128 ROP
– 512 TMU
– Bandwidth of 1 TB / s
– 300 Watt TDP
– Liquid Cooling

To put it in perspective, the Fury X2 equates to more than four R9 380 graphics cards, and is expected to deliver up to 80% boost in 4K and 2560×1440 gaming performance as compared to a single Fiji XT GPU at the same frequencies.

Further, the dual-GPU will boast of around 12 TFLOP of Single Precision compute performance, fastest GPU solution in the world, inside of Tiki.

This is the problem with Ultra-wides.. vertical 1440 has been the standard/mainstream since 2012. We need more than this.

A nice ultra-wide 4K'ish 5800x2160/90 or 120/144Hz display would be very interesting.

None at 4K this year. Granted I don't want ultrawide anyways.

So was nVidia's offerings.. we will see though. I surely hope one of them brings HBM2 to market sooner than 2017.

As for dual GPU cards. Owned a few, garbage compared to just doing SLi/CFx. You are so limited buy your thermals. They are cool for SFF builds but i'm starting to see them as gimmicks instead of solutions to any real problem.

Yeah i'm in agreement on ultra wides, but the ultra wides might be interesting for a Star Citizen/driving sim. In 2011-2012 I did a surround setup which make games like Dirt super fun. Outside of that idk, the form factor seems uncomfortable for my gaming and/or use as a daily driver.

AMD for whatever reason got to HBM way quicker than Nvidia, I suspect it was that Samsung deal announced last year with AMD.

Samsung has already started making their HBM2 chips for the AMD summer lineup and AMD got priority.

Nvidia is delayed because they are using Hynix HBM2 which won't be available until Q3 2016.

Interesting, I always heard good things about the 295x2.

Speaking of the FuryX2 set to debut next week they were spotted in the wild yesterday in console sized mini super computers for devs

what a time to be alive, so much power in such a small size

DX12 delivering early on too, can't wait until later in the year.
