Yeah thats why I first told him to wait, but the card Gardoki linked is a pretty good deal for someone that needs an immediate upgrade

run 1080 on a 1440? What a peasant move...

Maybe, but it's also tough to justify the $50+ extra over the non-X 390 for a few extra fps. I guess that's how it always goes with GPU pricing.

Compromise now for future improvements.

It's the cost effective idea though.

Thank you all for the info!
Let me ask you all this.. If I were to go big on the front end with a monitor, like something along the lines of this Asus for around 650.
What would be the downfall of using that and upgrading the graphics card around holiday/Christmas time? A lot of monitor for my graphics card? I don't have heating issues with my current pc, would it over work the card?
TIA

Is that a great monitor? Yes. Is it $400 better than the Qnix I linked earlier? Not even close IMO.
You are paying $400 extra for a response time reduction from 8ms to 1ms and a refresh rate of 120 to 144. Its highly likely you would ever notice either of those changes.
If 1ms response time and 144hz refresh rate is important to you, I'd buy either of these first:
Acer $469 or Benq $499.
Also, your current video card will likely spontaneously combust if you try to use it on any of these monitors discussed so far. Its simply not going to push that resolution at a reasonable frame rate on any graphics intensive game.

I don't think Acer makes a ROG Swift. That's Asus. He mentioned the XG270HU or the BenQ because they're $250 cheaper. $650-750 vs $450-500.

Well, don't forget the gsync aspect. That's why that Asus he linked is so expensive. And it's not a matter of worth. Gsync is expensive no matter what. As stated above though, the Rog swift TN panel is old news. Wouldn't buy regardless.
Also, the end result of OCing those qnix monitors isn't always perfect. Not that it should be taken under consideration anyway. It's the best monitor you can get for under 300, obviously.
The ATL airport is just gross. I feel like I'm catching the flu right now.

Yeah gysnc is great, if you have a team green video card able to make use of it. Currently he doesnt. And, at current price points, whats the point in buying a nvidia card over an AMD if you are gaming at 1440p? Price to performance it seems like a no brainer which way to go. Maybe pay more for a free sync enabled monitor and get the 390x or put everything on hold until the new releases this summer.

Both of those monitors you listed are Freesync monitors. They don't charge $200 more for Freesync like Gsync. #TeamRed
In fact, Acer's new monitor this quarter that just came out is the XF270HU, 1440p 144Hz AHVA Freesync, $550. The XG270HU and the BenQ are TN panels.

That's my vote for everyone in this discussion looking to upgrade, fwiw. That includes monitor if variable refresh is under consideration.

SBVital linked the ROG swift a few posts above mine...
