Thank you I do plan on adding another card down the line as well. If that changes anything.

If you like the witcher series, several 970s come with the witcher 3 for only a few bucks more at newegg.

No big deal to me. Buy the case you like. Just didn't want you to think you need all that room, even if you add a second card. A lot of people tend to prefer small form factor. But personally I have a case that makes full towers look like steam boxes.

Much better. About the monitor ... I don't know what kind of panel is in the BenQ, or if you care about the displayport and HDMI, but you can get a QNIX QX2710 glossy perfect pixel on ebay for $299. They use Samsung PLS panels and ship from Korea (surprisingly, the shipping takes like 2-3 days though). I have no knowledge of the BenQ to say whether it's better or worse, though.

When I got mine it surprised the crap out of me, I ordered some shoes that took a week and half and they were shipped in the US.

If anybody wants to put their glorious rigs to the test, Steam has The Vanishing of Ethan Carter on sale right now for $7.99
I picked it up, eye candy galore...
I pushed the game all the way to 4k resolution using the DSR ability of my 980. It sure is pretty that way and was still getting 40-50 FPS.

Tempted to see how my 970's stack up against a single 980, but I don't have 4k.

The 970s should perform better.
You don't have to have a 4k monitor, use DSR in your nvidia control panel to render the game in 4k then it down-converts it to your native resolution.
Open the nvidia control panel (Not nvidia experience panel) and it is under the 3D settings tab.
You can enable DSR at different levels. I have 2x and 4x enabled. You can then select the higher resolutions in your games.
Usually, you can do without AA at this point.

too much to digest on the 1st of my three nights off at this hour and drinks, I will revisit tomorrow.

How much vram was it using at that point? I'm curious if SLI 980s could keep it at 60fps consistently, or if the vram is the sole bottleneck.

Sometimes, FXAA or a hair of SMAA can bring it over the top. At least in 4K DSR. I've never seen true 4K gaming on a monitor in person.

Anyone have an extra PSU they're selling? I'm looking for a new one for my htpc build, since my old one was too big. I need one around 140mm in length

This guy probably won't even be back here but..
OCZ ARC100 240GB SSD is only 79.99 today and tomorrow

I did some testing running at 3840 x 2160 DSR:
This is with all game settings on max other than AA.
This is with an i5 2500k OC to 4.2 ghz, 16GB RAM, MSI 980 Gaming 4G OC model.
Disabled - A fairly steady 60 FPS and around 1 gig of vram used
2XMSAA - 45-50 FPS, about 1.6 gig of vram used
4XMSAA - A cinematic 30FPS with about 1.8 gig of vram used
8XCSAA - Crashed
2xFSAA - 55-60 FPS with about 1.4 gig of vram used
System RAM usage at a max of 7 gig.
My poor little i5 2500k was maxed out. Definitely the bottleneck here and most definitely would render more FPS with a better CPU. This is my next upgrade later this year. Waiting on the next gen from Intel at this point.
So for this game, VRAM is not the issue at all, seems to be CPU bound for me. I would expect a dual card setup with a faster CPU to be able to run this game very well at 4k.

Even with a second 980 in SLi, 4k would be a bitch. Yes your i5 is a bottle neck but that single 980 isn't going to push much fps in 4k on max settings.

In some games, the 4GB of vram is the clear bottleneck. Particularly in big uncompressed textures, I'll see full 4GB in use, and 80% GPU usage and constant frame drops/stutter. These 980s should be 6GB cards, but if the RAM stacked in SLI, they would be perfect.
I hate aliasing so much though, so sometimes I'll use 4k dsr with medium-high textures if the anti-aliasing choices just aren't doing it for me.
I'm playing ethan carter now, and I can do 4K maxed out with 4x MSAA, but only when vsync is disabled in game. For some reason the vsync is screwy. Could be an SLI-related issue, but with vsync enabled I'm at 40fps with drops in the 30s, but disable vsync and I get fps in the 70 and 80s, up to 91. Gonna try using nvidia control panel for vsync.

Did you see the Newegg sale on the Samsung 850 pro? 512GB for 250.

Went ahead and upgraded from Win7 to Win8.1, was overdue ahead of 10, changed my setup a bit thought I'd share, love this Witcher 3 wallpaper in 1440p.
