I will jump on tonight but Hearthstone has been taking up all my time.

With Pokemon, I want to table top the TCG, just because I love looking at the cards.

FUUUUCK I wish I had a Microcenter close.

$299 in store pick up only for an i7-5820K today, normally $370. Helluva deal. I would jump all over that.

Oh wells, just gonna have to stick to this cocaine and heroine to fill this upgrade bug I have until Skylake.

If I was going x99, I would just go with the 5930k. I don't see the need to jump from a 4790k to a 5820k. Plus you have to pay out the arse for RAM and a decent motherboard

That's a little extreme to try and compare, a 5930 is almost $600, the whole point of my post was the nearly $400 5820K is under $300 at MC.

I don't mind the RAM/MOBO conversion, going to do it with Skylake when it launches either way, yes prices will go down some but not that much when it initially launches.

I've started seeing some pretty decent combo deals for x99 already too.

I mean if I could do it I probably would, grab the MSI x99 sli plus board for $200 and 8GB of Mushkin Redline 2800 DDR4 for $120 and call it a day, upgrading the board/ram down the road when it's come down.

I was just saying I wouldn't buy the 5820k at any cost close to a 4790k. I made the mistake last time of getting the 3820 over the 3930k. Those X930k chips are fricking badass compared to its younger x820k chips

The 5820K is cheaper than a 4790K in terms of this current MC deal though, and obviously buying the mobo/ram I mentioned above I would be future proofed until I upgraded the mobo/ram down the road when it's mainstream.

If I had an MC close I would do it, but since I don't, I'll just twiddle my thumbs and continue to wait for Skylake.

I am unbelievably impatient though. So bad. Skylake-K could get delayed too, and this PC would go out the window.

Don't forget that the 5820K is a six-core CPU. Intel isn't doing the same spec scheme as they've done in the past. The only differences between it and the 5930K are 200MHz base clock and number of PCIe 3.0 lanes, neither of which are worth the price increase to me unless I wanted to run more than 3 video cards (which I don't think I'll ever do until vram stacks).

Before Haswell-E, it made far less sense to go with the low-end CPU for the X-series platform because they were quad-cores.

Granted, one disadvantage with the 5820K, as well as the other ones on that socket, is the 20% loss in single-threaded performance. More cores requiring lower frequency, and they generally don't have as much overclocking headroom. That's one of the main reasons the platform has historically offered the least value in gaming, but of course has advantages as a workstation build.

I literally have to tell myself "just wait for skylake" repeatedly in my head when browsing deals. Not even joking.

I'm constantly looking through /r/buildapcsales, and I always try to go check something out. Then I have to take a step back and ask myself, "Do I really need this?"

I always want to tell myself yes

Battlefield 4 was AMD-favored too. I think it actually took a little while for Nvidia cards to not do terribly by comparison. It's like the one AAA series that NVIDIA didn't stick their dicks into. This wasn't even tested with Mantle, either.

No, it isn't. I can walk into my local MicroCenter right now and pick up a 4790k for $279.99.

I miss single threaded performance so much I rarely power up the main rig and use one of the secondaries with a 4330 and 4670k.

Benchmarks don't show it as much, but something can be said about how snappy a system with Haswell compared to Ivy. If you just game, I'm back in the higher IPC per core than more cores.

EDT: I want a new Pixel to run CoC and bypass running Android on a PC.

Hey guys, recently became interested in joining the PC Master Race and have decided to build my 1st computer. I have the help of my buddy so putting it together should not be a problem. I have somewhere between 1300-1500 dollars but I also need a monitor.

I created a PC Part picker guide:

Any advice would be great.
Thanks for the help.

A few suggestions:

Add the Hyper 212 Evo at least, or else don't bother with an unlocked CPU.

Spend the extra $5 for this 2133MHz CL9 RAM: LINK
Ignore the PCPartPicker warning and do not be scared of the 1.65v. It is not a problem whatsoever with your CPU/Mobo combo.

No SSD in a $1,000 build is depressing. Add one. At least 120GB, 250GB would be better.

I don't see anything particularly compelling you get from the $340 Windforce that you wouldn't get the from the $320 EVGA ACX 2.0, other than an unnecessarily long cooler. These cards are easy to cool and overclock. Just for money-saving sake. There's also the Strix for $329. I just don't recommend spending more than MSRP for a 970.

Full-tower case for a single card, ATX setup with a Hyper 212 cooler (let alone stock cooling) is kind of odd, but if you like the look, no big deal. Just don't skimp elsewhere for the sake of affording that case.

I'd get a 80+ Bronze Rosewill HIVE over that EVGA. It's cheaper. LINK

Sirtec (Makes the Hives) is a better manufacturer than FSP (Makes the suprnovas). Don't get hung up on Bronze/Silver/Gold. It's negligibly different and not nearly as relevant or as important as getting consistent rail voltage from a PSU made by a reputable manufacturer (that's manufacturer, not brand).

Pirate Windows.

I'd go 1440P 60Hz over 1080 144hz for that GPU, but that's up to you. If you've never gamed at 1440P, for god's sake do it.

No SSD might as well throw it into the nearest pond

I second 1440p too
