Well, Dungeons and Dragons went from a niche game, to a reviled one, to a nice one... and now is insanely popular.

People are just realizing that we nerds, dorks and geeks had all the best hobbies.

What? No. DnD is still lame. The only people who think DnD is cool are the ones subject themselves to the dark corners of the comic book shop.

Gaming is acceptable to pretty much anyone under 40.

The generational divide exists but the age that divide happens is creeping upwards.

60+ year olds think of video games like PacMan and Space Invaders that are games for little kids play.

Don't confuse the OT for the masses. Gaming is gigantic and bigger than every other mass consumption product (movies, music, etc). The fact that you mention gambling as ok and video games as not means that your perception is too twisted by TD.

Walked into the Peds ER at the major hospital I used to work for one night to advise the Dr. that one of his patients did indeed have a major broken arm requiring surgery.

Place was packed. Patients in every exam room, sick/injured kids filled the waiting room too. More in the Peds ER than the main ER and Minor ER combined.

The Dr. was in his little office area on his gaming laptop in a raid on WoW. He plays a wizard as his main. That Dr. is 4-5 years older than me and I ain't no Spring chicken.

So IMO, gaming is accepted by the masses. The anti-gamers are just like the hardcore raiders: very vocal and in your face while being the minority.

Gaming is a multi billion dollar industry

Most people are at least somewhat familiar with gaming or have gamed some in the past

I'd like to know what % of households have gaming consoles of some sort. I'd have to think it's pretty high.

All told, Nielsen reveals that there almost 162 million people in US TV households who own video game consoles with the ability to watch TV. That's roughly half the US population.

I'm 32 and I just spent all of Saturday playing a Fortnite tourney with a friend. I logged 8 hours of playing, and was drained mentally afterwards, but it was a blast.

If anyone asks me what my hobbies are, gaming is the first one I list. I don't care what anyone else thinks.
