That is not the problem. The problem is that EA is run by a bunch of greedy simpletons with no idea how to keep this sort of company alive in even the medium term. Their business model is to acquire quality franchises, do the bare minimum possible to release a "new" game in those franchises, and then milk the idiots who buy those games for as long as possible.
Fortunately gamers are slightly smarter than the average American Bud Light drinker. They are finally figuring out that the EA label on the cover means the game is going to be an unreedeemable piece of shite.
EA will be dead in the next 10 years.
I was also trying to be nice. They have the occasional great game. Occasional And they put medium fare for most of the time.
And SOMETIMES their sports games are solid (they might be rehashes every + 1 new feature, but still, solid rehashes).
But yes for the most part EA is problematic. They are also sort of a necessary evil, so there's that.
EA gonna EA.

I love in that article how the lawyer says finding ways to use in-game content in your $60 purchase to avoid paying even more money through microtransactions could be considered theft.
I felt like I was alone in this thread:

But yeah, this is the stuff I would expect from EA, it's too tempting for them.
And I don't mean to pile on EA, but people saying it's ridiculous to think microtransactions just aren't a bad idea for EA? This is where we're heading.

If you've never played a SimCity game, download SC4 Deluxe for $20 on Steam. 1000x better.

funny my copy of simcity 4 works great including all the add content from sites like simtropolis.com
The moment they said this was going to be an online 24/7 game it was dead on arrival. That is not how people want to play simcity.

What good do they see in keeping you online 24/7?

quote:the bigger problem is Madden fanboys. Seriously, it's virtually the same game every year. Stop going apeshit over it.
The problem is that they put out games like Battlefield and that supports the rest of the shite they release.

It's the same with what diablo 3 did so they can prevent hackers.

so they can prevent piracy.
I seriously doubt they care if people are modding SimCity. This is all about their paranoia over pirated games.

I refuse to buy Madden until they actually improve the physics from what they were when NFL 2k was still being made.

I'm sticking to SC4. I just now realized you can download mods. :|

So what went wrong? The short answer is: a lot more people logged on than we expected.
This excuse would be more believable if it wasn't the go-to one to use for any developer when their servers blow arse at launch.

I'm about to get into the series. I downloaded a 60 trial of the first one and loved it.

I finally got to play yesterday, and when I did. I played for a LONG time. It's very addicting. I already have a city of over 100k people. Room is an issue, though. I'm rapidly turning into NYC.
