Seriously? That sucks. I never had any problems getting them. They are at like a 30-40% drop rate for me.

I did see this on twitter from a game dev
quote:
#TheWitcher3 suffers from the same dissonance as e.g. #RedDeadRedemption. Main story clashes with all side quests.
quote:
"Find that woman who is in grave danger, quickly! Also, could you find out who burnt the dwarf's house, and collect a hundred flowers?"

Anyone who doesn't like this game is an idiot.

I will say the combat lock gets rather annoying.
It did for a while, but then I realized that if you flick the right stick (lock on when clicked) it will switch between targets on the fly. The made it much easier.

That is why I am not rushing to call this game "GOTY OMG!!!!" as some others have.
Its a fun game, but at the moment absolutely nothing ground breaking. The constant exploration will eventually take its tole and what is left is how I will judge the game.
ETA:
With that said, the menus suck and trying to quickly navigate anything is difficult IMO.

Good idea. I remember the ridiculous craze over Inquisition. When I got to it the game was good but people made it out to be better than it was.

I disagree. I feel like the side quests are the strongsuit of the game. They actually seem thought out a lot more than in other RPG's.
Plus a lot of them feel connected, just like the main story quests.
A lot of if I didn't do that quest then I couldn't do this other quest type of stuff.

This is easily one of the best games I have played in a while and my only experience with the series was a few hours of the Witcher 2.

In my honest opinion, the menus are awful to navigate (and you HAVE to use them quite a bit), the combat feels geared for one on one but you are often overwhelmed, you are constantly poor as frick, and swimming mechanics are awful

The quest to kill the Noonwraith at the well is a good example. Just be sure to cast the magic trap at the start of a fight. You go from 12 damage per sword swing to around 150.
I'm not sure how I would've known that if I didn't watch the fight on YouTube. Maybe it's explained in The bestiary. I struggled with that fight more than the Griffon until I learned that trick.

I really like the side quests...granted I have only done a couple. I felt bad for the guy that is going to get hanged for burning the house down. Do you later see this guy hanging from a tree somewhere?
Also I am terrible at combat and am constantly near death. I put the difficulty at the notch above normal. I think that was a mistake.

I don't mind the being poor aspect, because I enjoy the work it takes to purchase things. It makes the items you have more valuable. Everything else I agree with.
I will give compliments on the horseback riding. It is easy and makes traveling a lot better.

I am attributing my not knowing what I am doing to just not really playing these types of games.

This isn't the most intuitive RPG, so I think it is probably a combination of not playing these types of games, and the game itself.

Yeah I've gotten use to it, but it can be a chore at time. It feels like it would be easier to use on PC.

Yeah I can take down some bad arse monsters, but as soon as I get surrounded by some drowners I'm fricked. The signs help though.

I am up to a level 11 now and it isn't much of an issue anymore. The rewards for missions and Witcher contracts really start to go up to. Also the fist fighting missions are an easy way to make some quick money.
I spent too much money on some gwent cards in the first inn and it really screwed me.

The menus are bad but I'm surprised no one has mentioned the tiny text on the loot and harvest items.

Not sure, but there are some repurcussions if you come back to that blacksmith later in the game

My friend and I that have played the previous games put it in Normal and are loving the game. My friend who has never touched the series, put it in hard, and really disliked it initially.

I am going to have to disagree with you about the combat. The Witcher has ALWAYS punished positioning in fights. In this game they give you 4 escapes from damage, 2 of which re-position you to avoid being trapped and attacked from the back/sides. I actually feel the combat is to easy as you can simply roll behind your opponents, strike from behind, then roll again, either getting behind the same one or taking advantage of one who has left themselves vulnerable during the move.
And outside of Trophy fights, potions aren't even necessary. In the first game Geralt said "A Witcher without his potions is only half a witcher." This iteration of the game has auto-refilling potions and yet they sit there unused because the fights are to easy.
