Eeesh, sounding more and more like a hard pass from me. Here is what the guy that has played it says about the space stations you encounter.

Very boring. 2-4 rooms each time, one room always has a suit upgrade module, one room always has resources to take, the other 2 random rooms can have small variance on what's inside (more resources, some upgrade modules) and there's like a 50/50 chance for an NPC to be in the right side room. They are very cut and paste, don't expect much from them. Ships do come and go frequently though, Sean was right about it being a "ship showroom"

I'm afraid to criticize because the PlayStation fanboys feelings would get hurt and they'd cry about everything Sony being shite on.
Also the downvotes are the worst
Eta just the worst. Almost as bad as this game.

The guy also said after making it to the center and playing for over 30 hours he hasn't died a single time.

I read that spoiler thread on reddit
Game does not sound fun to me

I don't see how this is surprising. This game has looked boring since they showed it but everyone kept assuming there was more to it and building it up. I hope it's good for the people that care but to me it's playing out as I expected.

Would agree with this, just looks like a time waster for me similar to Minecraft. A good game to put on some headphones and frick around for a little while, but something I couldn't play for an extended period of time.

just another elite dangerous. wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle. it also has the same build up. lots of people hoping there is more to it. turns out you have to pay another full priced games worth to get a little width to the ocean but not really anymore depth. minecraft comparisons sort of work as well but at least you can build shite there. minecraft for me wasn't worth a bother until the massive overhaul mods started coming out adding extra depth.
i've always said these types of games could really benefit from a diablo style loot system. just give me a reason to kill things and find some loot. i dont want to walk into the same boring space station over and over again with the same rooms to click an object on the wall and get an upgrade.
oh well, maybe the PC version will be worth a buy in a year or so once modders get a hold of it.

There's a few things to consider here. The leaked comments and footage are from a guy who paid $1250 for the game. He does not have the big day-one patch that everyone else will have. I'm sure a few things will be addressed.
Also it has been "assumed" that getting to the center of the galaxy is the "end game" for this. To me it's much more like minecraft. The "end game" there is boring and easy to get to one you gather the correct resources (in this case, eye of the enders) and find the end portal. It is very similar to this aspect in NMS. The leaker stumbled across a basic infinite resource that allowed his hyper drive to race to the center of the galaxy after 30 hours.
This doesn't mean that the game sucks. I'm looking forward to exploring the universe and planets, naming stuff, etc way more than finding the center. And even after I do, much like minecraft I will explore more afterwards.
I'm interesting to see if the day-one patch nixes that resource from the game, bc the leaker basically said without it the pacing was awesome.
I think the game is going to be great for what it is, and I think people that are tearing down were overhyping it to begin with. This is an indie game. 10 people worked on it. It never was going to be the next Mass Effect or Star Wars.

Elite Dangerous is one of the biggest wastes of money on a video game in my life.
I don't think the Minecraft comparisons are totally apt here since Minecraft had a lot of multiplayer longevity (NMS supposedly has minimal tools for multiplayer interaction). Also Minecraft had a bunch of artistic opportunity. Not sure if the same can be said for NMS.

I've played minecraft with people online that choose to just get maps and explore. That's *all* they did.
In this aspect, I think NMS has tons more exploration value and it's basically infinite in that regard where minecraft obviously has the building aspect, but only like 6-7 biomes total, 10-15 animals, etc.
In minecraft you are stuck on the one world and have to generate a new one if you want. You can explore everything MS has to offer in a few hours. In NMS you can hop on a ship and explore space just as much as the planet. I know people that are just planning to be space pirates in NMS.

I don't disagree, I just think that this game's appeal is so much more niche than Minecraft that comparing the two isn't useful.

I think it's useful in the sense that most people are using it to try to compare it to a non-traditional type of gameplay. Obviously they are worlds apart but both are procedural generated and don't necessarily follow the traditional game formula and goals.

Also,
Take the spoiler leaks with a grain of salt. They are from a dude who wanted to brag to the world that he paid $1300+ for a game because it's his version of "Gaming Nirvana" to play a game like this before all of us "normal folks" can play it and build wiki's on it, etc.
That said, he then goes to reddit and brags about the whole thing and then continues to spoil the rest of the world. Why do that? If playing the game first is the experience you are going for, then play it alone like you mentioned. Instead he does the dick move on spoiling a game without the day-one patch to everyone waiting for it.
It comes off completely disingenuous. He's just like that guy we all know, 100% douchy and the "one-up" type guy saying "look at me". I bet he reeks of Drakor Noir. He is the epitome of an attention whore.
I'll wait for official reviews and experience it myself, with the day-one patch.

Leaker's copy of NMS was likely from an unfinished demo/tech build/unpatched

It's not that I trust the leaks, it's that I felt this way from the beginning.

I saw some guy on twitch last night saying he was playing with "early access" ... the game looked very much like sub nautical on land and in space. He typed messages on PS4 while playing to prove it wasn't a video.
I will probably go pick it up Wednesday or Thursday after watching a few hours of it Tuesday night on twitch. Looked like it will be a great game to just fart around on.

Yeah this seems like Spore all over again. The hype train is so out of control that I think it bound to derail at some point.
Posted on 8/1/16 at 10:33 am to CorporateTiger
Spore was way oversold tho. the backlash was deserved because it ended up being a dumbed-down version of what they hyped.
in fairness to NMS it just seems to be what at least i was afraid of it being. a shallow exploration game. the only real hype they have done is to make the center of the galaxy seem more than it is.
as a space sim nut i wish these games would focus more on depth then they are. elite and starbound being the 2 more recent examples. im just really getting tired of going back to X3.

I agree that the community has overhyped NMS more than the devlopers have. I feel like they have been trying to bring down the hype
