All of the most succesful online MP games do this. They stick with the basic mechanics that made them popular to begin with and make community driven tweaks in each offering.

I don't get all the killstreak stuff, but I guess I'll figure it out when the game comes out. I mean, you can get an EMP on support class even if you die multiple times?

I honestly have no idea how I feel about that. Its going to suck playing without teams though, because it seems like almost anybody would be able to EMP then.
