That is entirely itemization and champion dependent. Some champs just don't scale that well with gold.
But when playing pretty much any role but support or jungle you buy pen when you get fed. An early Void Staff or LW makes counter-itemization almost impossible and are very cost efficient items.

Can't get an ARAM or a Rift game without some moron DC'ing or AFK'ing.

The problem is riot balancing this game for LCS. They said last season they wanted longer matches. Unfortunately, that's destroyed solo queue. Never before have I felt so powerless in games that I'm playing well in. One mistake by one teammate at 40 minutes in and its GG.

I wouldn't go ranked yet. I played all of a season 3 without doing my promos. Finally did them in season 4 and started Bronze I.
I've heard horror stories about starting off bronze IV and V.
Not saying I'm anything special, but I've been past level 30 for an entire season now and I am still learning the game in such a way to make me an effective player.
You may very well be 10000x better than me, but I hate to see players start ranked too early and get stuck in Bronze hell.

You cannot be stuck in bronze. If your good enough to be silver you will eventually make it to silver

I personally had no issue getting out of Bronze I, so I can only comment on that. Everything is speculation based on what I've heard.
Either way, I still don't recommend going into ranked until you've played post level 30 for a while. Just my opinion though. No sense in starting Bronze IV or V, when you can learn and start off Bronze I or Silver V.

Just play ranked man.
I personally think it makes the game more fun, regardless of what division you end up in.
