For sure, big time too. Really great tournament for NA, have to feel pretty solid about Rift Rivals and the top 1/2 seeds at Worlds assuming TL gets one, there is virtually no international gap.

Sucks TL started off so bad. Some bad play, but also I didn't like a lot of their picks.
But the results are quite standard. Asia on top and NA/EU below them.
Kingzone getting beat up some was more surprising than the TL struggles.

Yeah the bad start killed them and did them in, just can't do that. But on the flip side they adapted really quick and went 4-2 to force the tiebreaker.
They beat RNG/FW/FNC after that 0-4 start. I think I'd still take NA over EU right now, but luckily Rift Rivals is just over a month away mid split.
Western teams are a bit behind, but compared to previous years the gap at least in this tournament, looks quite small. Avoid a bad start at Worlds = likely advance.
True, they were the heavy heavy favorites coming in, and now after groups it's RNG as the favorites. Hell after 3 days it was Flash Wolves. Goes to show how close all of these teams are at least in BO1's. LCK in BO5's is a whole different animal.

Great tournament for NA.. They just finished in the exact same spot as TSM last year. How hard were you dropped on your head as a child?

Yeah them finishing in 5th is bad, but I think their ability to recover after such a bad start is a good takeaway.
They could have folded after the first 2 days, but they mad a decent comeback.
It's a little different from NA's normal "start strong, then collapse"

ETA: thought the 0-4 was about the game. My bad.
I mean, they did about what NA has always done - barely miss groups - on big stages.
They had 3 good wins in RNG, FW, and Fnatic but they overall lost the series to Fnatic 2-1. The fourth win was EVOS who everyone but TL and Fnatic swept. Flash Wolves have been slipping hard the last few days. RNG was a solid win, but made them look silly this morning in the second game.
I give them a ton of credit for making it competitive. They could have rolled over and crumbled but fought hard while almost getting that 4th spot.
The results still tell me that NA is behind the other regions. The standings show that games were very winnable. No 1-2 teams were THAT dominant.

The loss to EVOS is wat really stings. If they won that match (which they should have), there’s no tie-breaker.
How NA teams continue to frick up and lose to bad teams, I don’t understand. I don’t think anyone expected to advance past FW, KingZone, or RNg, but we at least should have made the semis

just finished watching all the matches last night. some thoughts:
Liquid SMH. nice comeback at least to force a tiebreak.
kai'sa is ridiculous and should just be perma banned
Karma rose to S tier midlaner I think?
Malzahar priority has sky rocketed and not just for Liquid
Kog'maw does a frickton of damage and apparently is a counter pick into kai'sa.
enchanter supports have made a comeback with janna, karma, soraka
the xin Zhao jungle picks were bold. the lack of Sejuani jungle has been refreshing

I'm glad a new adc is in the mix for pick/bans. Makes it a tad more diverse.

Karma is just a good solid mid pick because she's safe and has a lot of support to a team looking to play around the other lanes. Karma can also get away with building Ardent Censor if your support cant. She does solid damage as well.

Malz was popular in the spring split as well. It just forces you to build QSS to take up an item spot or you'll die. Pro teams are so quick to collapse that a flash/ult Malz pretty much ensures a 4v5 without a QSS.

I agree, it's just such a risky pick. No escape makes for an easy target unless you have good front lines. You pretty much have to pick your entire team around Kog if you pick him.

The Sej pick was pretty much a jungle Malzahar. You get hit by the ult you were pretty much dead. I think that they nerfed her tankiness in the past, which didn't make her as viable.
I'm with you though. I like more variety, especially in the jungle.

His wave clear is great after 1 item and his ult is always great, especially in our elo.
Even if it's easily countered by a QSS, that's 1,500 gold (I think). You're forcing anyone who purchases it to delay half an item.

Mid - Karma
Top- Shen
Support - Lulu
Jungle - Trundle
You're 9 kinds of fricked if Kog dies though

RNG sweeps Fnatic 3-0. All of them were competitive games though. Fnatic just couldnt get anything going.
RNG looks really good right now.
