ESPN to begin streaming NA LCS on ESPN+ starting this split.
quote:
The North American League of Legends Championship Series will be broadcast on newly-launched streaming service ESPN+ beginning with the summer split in a multiyear deal, ESPN and Riot Games announced on Friday.
The non-exclusive agreement will not affect services that currently broadcast League of Legends such as Twitch, YouTube and Riot's in-game player. It will open up yet another avenue for esports and traditional sports fans to watch League of Legends broadcasts within ESPN's subscription-based network.

Curious to see if they just use the same feed, as in the same casters/analysts or if it will be different. I'm assuming the same people.

Will be the same.
Hmm..
Then what's the point other than just getting it on ESPNs network? If twitch is free no one will pay extra to watch it on ESPN if everything is the same, no?

For traditional sports fans to have an all in one app on the ESPN network. Marketing/advertising in the WatchESPN app. Another program to make paying for ESPN+ seem worth it to others outside of just traditional sports. Plenty of reasons really.

ESPN+ is a joke.
You don't get standard programming and you don't get any of the major conference games during college football season.
I'm not entirely sure why anyone would use it, regular sports fan or not.

It's for smaller sports and shows mostly. The whole point was to NOT interfere with regular ESPN programming and take ratings away, so of course no major sports.
NHL/MLB/MLS (all games are free)/Tennis/Golf is mostly the coverage you get. Throw in other niche small sports such as Rugby and small college sports.

Didn't think about advertising.
Don't really know much on ESPN+, is it a separate service you have to pay for? Or will you be able to still put in your provider log in like watch espn is now?

Yes, it's $4.99 a month. Offers a bunch of exclusive shows, and events.
They have a ton of content on it for it just launching.

I guess this is obvious with the espn+ stuff but the BAMTech deal is dead now
well Disney owns BAMTECH and ESPN so I guess this is the evolution of that deal .
Riot is just losing out on a lot of money

TLDR: Disney, who used to be a minority investor in BamTech, bought out BamTech. Therefore, everything we were supposed to have the BamTech deal such as $50mil a year in revenue, a unique app experience, is all gone and dead. What we get now in its place is another app (which you have to pay for) to watch NALCS. No information about rights, money, special content is available. Travis also laments that there is was no communication about this for over a year and a half from Riot even though they said they would be more open about it when the deal was announced.

I guess it's just not for me.
The 30 for 30 series is amazing, but I'm not going to pay monthly for it.
I'm fine with youtube tv at $40 with standard ESPN programming.

You are kinda missing the point, it's for niche sports and what not, it is in no way affiliated with regular TV. It's for stuff they don't already show on ESPN/2/3.
Every MLS game is included for free, so soccer fans will happily take that for $4.99. It includes a couple of free MLB and NHL games daily, so not a bad deal there. They struck a 10 year deal to broadcast all the Ivy League games. Rugby and UFC struck big deals to be shown on there as well, whole bunch of events.
And there are about 6-8 exclusives in terms of shows:
I'm not going to sub to it, but for $4.99 I think it's a good deal if any of it interests you.

The Detail - A basketball analysis show hosted by Kobe Bryant
ESPN FC - A soccer analysis show that moved from airing on the networks to exclusively being on ESPN+
In The Crease - a daily NHL highlight and discussion show hosted by Linda Cohn and Barry Melrose.
Quest for the Stanley Cup - A documentary series following the 2018 Stanley Cup playoffs (moving from Showtime).
Last Train to Russia - A documentary series previewing the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Year One - A documentary series following the 2017-2018 NBA Rookie Class, featuring Jayson Tatum, Ben Simmons, and Donovan Mitchell.
MLS Rewind - A weekly recap of Major League Soccer action, hosted by Taylor Twellman and featuring analysis from Alejandro Moreno.

I’m actually happy with this. Don’t think I was going to make it ok this evening.

ESPN+ is the shite for stuff like college baseball. They've even shown a few of the NBA playoff games on there.

Riot client going bananas tonight.
I don't know that I've ever seen a game with as many consistent problems as league has.
What are they worth, like $2 billion?

I’ve died to a random flipping motorcycle on PUBG more than I’ve had any problem with league of legends.

They put up ARURF in place of clash.
Posted on 5/26/18 at 2:34 pm to Jackie Chan
They took away the trading champs aspect of it (like ARAM).
That and everyone is in try hard mode on it. Back dooring, split pushing, coordinating 4 man dives at like 2 mins into the game.
shite used to be a fun way to just spam abilities and goof around. Not no mo.

I just wanted to goof around and play a champ I've never played but the enemy team was coordinating 4 minute dives bot. I have to put more mental effort into norms than ranked games nowadays just to not get stomped in 15 minutes.
