I really don't feel like this should be the biggest determining factor...

With that said, if he is in high school, then he has seen/talked about most of this stuff anyways.

If you are OK with your son seeing pixelated tits and arse, committing random acts of violence, and hearing frick every 10 seconds then I don't see a problem.

I played GTA when I was 15 and I turned out fine. I was a drug addict for only 6 years and didn't even have a record until I was 24.

Personally no.

But as another poster stated it really won't be much worse than what he has probably already experienced via the internet and TV.

GTA Online 1st Night Review

Well, I eventually got in. After dashboarding and restarting the Online launch 10-12 times. It's infuriating, but when it works you will skip the "Waiting for Other Players" screen and jump straight to "Launching Session" and then quickly to where you are picking out a car.

I only raced Lamar. No online players. Just me and him. Not sure why it requires to wait on others players if you can just race Lamar.

Anyhow, once I finished the race and set a "World Record" haha. You spend about 30 minutes with black and white blips popping up in the top left of your screen telling you how to play GTA.

You'll need to complete all the small little missions Lamar asks you to do: initial race, buy clothes, break up a drug deal, get a car and buy insurance, and finally go to a deathMatch location on the map. then and only then can you join a friend's session or they join your server.

kinda sux. i know how to play GTA.

Once in, it's straight up chaos on the map.
Whole lot of people just chasing other people down, popping a cap in them, and then running from the cops. Plus the occassional robbing of a convenience store to get money.

There are locations all over the map, marked in blue, to represent missions you and others on the server can play together. Once you select one of these missions, generally you are somehow placed on another server where the folks just racing around shooting each other causing chaos aren't there. It's just you and your mission partners. If someone in the game starts a mission it'll notify you in the bottom left of the screen and you can go to your phone and join in. That way not everyone has to meet at the same location to start the mission.

I really only played one quick mission.

But had a blast, partnering up with jcing and Achilles, chasing down randoms and killing them over and over. We got fricked up quite a bit too. Big difference in owning an Uzi and owning a pistol in a shoot out on the streets.

For each mission you do or each time you evade the police or each online person you kill; you get RP (Respect points). Respect points build up your character's overall lvl. And this level allows you to unlock better weapons, armor, clothes, car upgrades, etc.

my last two bits of advice for those who haven't played yet:

- the cops are a bitch. x10 harder to evade, there's more of them, and they will give you stars for just about anything. needs to be nerfed.
- save your money from your phone into your bank account. because each time you die it cost you a pretty penny when you are just starting out.

I can't tell you how many times I was $500 from the $3750 needed for an Uzi. To die 4-5 times in a row and have nothing.

There are a lot less cars on the map in online, so driving is very easy.

Hey y'all!

I never come on this board - not a gamer - but I have a question for y'all.

My 15 year old son is DYING to buy GTA V. A bunch of his friends have it. He's a good kid - makes good grades, doesn't get in trouble, plays football, yadda yadda yadda.

Should I let him get it or is it too mature for a 15 year old?

I don't want to be "that lady" but I've heard that there is a lot of drug stuff and sexual stuff in the game and it just concerns me.

Everyone posting in here seems to be well adjusted normal folks , so your opinions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hola Gump-ette,

Good Question. Depends on your kid.

If he's a good kid, good student, respectful to you and other adults, and overall well behaved...then sure I don't see a problem with him getting the game. There are topless strippers at the strip club, hookers you can pick up (doesn't show anything, just moaning and the vehicle bouncing up and down), a bunch of cussing, and plenty plenty of violence.

You can also take strippers home. Again, just a bunch of moaning. No actual virtual fricking.

Like others have said, I'm sure he's seen all of that by now at the age of 15. If he's seen a rated R movie in the theater or at home, he's likely seen the same things.

Look I would imagnie most everyone on this board grew up playing the Grand Theft Auto series and most of us are all young/middle aged professionals living very normal lives. most married or in serious relationships, with jobs, and no felonies. So the CBS/CNN/FOX reports about GTA brainwashing your kid into a mass murderer or pervert is bullshite 99% of the time.

If you are still not sure about picking it up for him. I'll make it easy on you. Be honest and tell him, you would rather buy him the Battlefield 4, NBA2K14, or the new COD when they come out. Or hell a Xbox One or PS4. He may take the bait and you won't have to worry about what he'll see on GTA.

I will try again today after work.

Question do you have to have TD crew members on your friends list to get in games with them?

How does this work if I wanted to jump on and play with y'all?

(XBOX if it matters)

i could be wrong, but I think your TD crew members show up in your phone and you can also access the Friends tab from the Start menu and join a server your Crew is on.

most of it is GTA Online training. But at that point, you're soo ancy from the failed servers and forced missions...it will piss you off.

I was a bit of a Debbie Downer in my post above, but I'm really excited for GTA Online.

last night was just chaos and fricking around.

- But the ranking system is really cool and I'm excited to see what all you can unlock the further you go.
- There appear to be a hell of a lot more gun, car, and clothing customization options online. Jcing found some sweet super short jogging shorts to match his sports jacket. And apparently you can make your vehicle a "Jihad jeep" remotely or just by driving it into something. You can have a pink gun too haha.
- If the multiplayer missions are anywhere remotely near the epicness of the single player missions. I cannot fricking wait.
- I also like the idea of being able to save a specific car of your chosing as "your car". I this matte black old school Challenger, that looked epic.
- Plus I bet the multiplayer team deathmatch, last team standing, cops and robbers will be a lot of fun once you get a good crew on the same server.

For those who haven't gotten in: keep trying, because once your past the stupid initial race, it's really smooth, no problems at all.

i was watching a video on ign where some of the ign staffers talked about future releases.

rockstar's gonna add in a race/deathmatch map editor, capture the flag, and heists at a later date so there will be more content in the future.

I can't wait for the heists.

honestly, I'll just be excited once things stabilize on the server side. I couldn't really do much this morning because the cloud servers were fricked up. I played for several hours last night though.
