If I was a betting man I'd say Sony didn't want TR releasing fall 2015 with Uncharted 4, and let them go with the timed exclusive deal with MS.

You may be on to something but perhaps from a different angle. When Microsoft approached them, they may have been more willing to do this knowing Uncharted 4 is expected to release then. I doubt Sony was worried about it.
