That's a hell of a lot easier than the original method.

Yea I'm stocked up now. I hit the gun guy and the random crap lady for all they have, wait at the bar 48 hrs, then rinse and repeat.
About to fast travel back to sanctuary to store everything so I'll stop being overweight. I'm at 633 weight with a 250 weight limit

I read an article that said to focus on 2 weapon types so you master them and dont become jack of all trades, master of none.
Article also said to invest highly into Luck bc in this game the perks are crazy good.
So a first time Fallout gamer, I'm at the salesman that allows me to spend my 25 first points. I want to lean on luck, what is a good build for a first time player going to focus on pistols and machineguns OR snipers?

I gotta say I don't get people who exploit a single player game for some type of elite advantage over the AI.

Problem solved
Bought the house in diamond city and stored enough of my stuff to get my weight down to fast travel. Just gotta make a couple trips to get everything.

Also found out if you try to kill the mayor he dies and then comes back to life.
POSSIBLE SPOILER BELOW
Bet he's a synth.

Finally figured out how to scrap stuff in Sanctuary so I've spent several hours just cleaning up and scrapping everything.
For some reason the folks from Concord are all standing on the roof of my workbench / house.
Not sure what the hell they are up to.
Stopped playing. Now watching the horrible crap happening in France.

Yea, cleaning up is actually pretty entertaining. Anyone been raided yet and have any tips on defense? I've just got a turret on the top of the bridge, then a guard tower and two turrets at the end of the bridge by the sign so far.

I was finally going to start the game just now, didn't get it until Tuesday because I ordered the Pip-boy edition, and I learn that I can't rebind the Numpad keys because they're all reserved. WTF? Has there been any workaround to this yet? I'm not switching and trying to play the game with WASD. If there's currently no solution it looks like I'll be waiting for modders to step in. fricking Bethesda.
Bethesda games wouldn't be anywhere near as good as they get without PC modders adding to and polishing their games, yet they release this without rebindable keys.

Makes it hard to go play a game like fallout.

Just curious, do you need this because you're left handed? I never even considered whether left-handed people reverse the controls. I had a coworker who was left-handed and her mouse was on the left side and she reversed the buttons. Seems very little is done to accommodate lefty PC gamers.
You considered something like this?

Nope, I'm right handed. I just grew up using the arrows, it feels more natural to me. I'm less likely to hit a wrong key than if I use WASD and I like using the Numpad keys because they're super close and accessible. I've had to use WASD on a game or two before, think they were older titles, and it felt like way too many keys were packed into too small of an area.
Never looked into those. Can't remember the last game that wouldn't let you rebind the Numpad keys so it's never an issue.
