I think your best bet is going to be using d2jsp on console until they fix the lobbies (not sure they even will).
If you go the d2jsp route, I recommend you DO NOT buy forum gold. Just sell the items you find for FG and buy ones you need. If you dont know the value of something just use the search forums function for the item you want to sell and you can get a ball park value.
There is a separate forum for consoles but ive never looked in there so i dunno how the market is.

They have changed the drop rates. I’ve found more stuff in a week than I did in years of the original

Its possible, however, I don't think they changed any drop rates. The video with the developers they specifically said they did not change any of that stuff. Their whole reasoning for not going to personal loot was that they did not want to mess with the economy in any way and that adding personal loot would break the economy. They claimed that they kept it 1:1 to legacy.
The thing about RNG is that its random. A Zod rune has 1:33k chance of dropping but just because you dropped one doesn't mean you couldn't drop another right after it. The second Zod roll is completely independent of the first.
It seems like you're just getting lucky. I've played probably 100 hours since Thursday (probably the only perk of being unemployed due to health issues) and just finally got a rune higher than Ko from a drop. Its completely random.
So, unless they lied, then drop rates are the same. Which, let's face it, I can't say confidently Blizzard didn't lie to us.

I got the wife hooked.
She’s a fricking loot goblin. Told her she rather just die with that loot on her body vs it being in my hands. Her response....”Yup”.
She’s literally just running in circles over loot and I just hear shite being dropped and picked up the whole times she’s spinning.

got through nm to hell tonight. my resists are shite but im killing shite so far at a good pace in a1 hell. i can summon 25 things now

question about the horadric cube. i still have the one from normal. will it not drop for me NM? just did the quest and it didn't. would it have dropped if i didn't have it?

Correct, once you get the cube in normal you keep it for the other difficulties. You could put it in your shared stash and it will drop another one, though i dont really see the point unless you wanted to put it on a different character for more space. Technically a level 1 can get a cube out of the stash and skip that part of the quest.
Also, if you go to halls of the dead level 3 or w/e and open the chest, if you don't have one in your inventory or personal stash it will drop again. Even if you have completed the quest. At least that was the case in D2.
You may have noticed right when you got to A2 on NM Deckard Cain had an ! and when you talked to him he said "You have quite a treasure there" blah blah. That's because you already had the cube.
Just go to maggot lair and claw viper temple and get the staff and ammy and you're done with that quest. No need to go to Halls of the Dead again unless you want another cube.

I had a tough time with Duriel on normal mode. Only had 8 skeletons, Act 2 merc, and clay golem. No bodies around to resummon. Had to keep going to different areas on waypoints to resummon. Used a shite ton of Town Portals.

How's everyone enjoying the game so far? How different is it for those who have played the original? I'll admit I haven't done much research because I haven't planned on playing it until closer to the Diablo IV release to replay the whole series. But didn't realize how far out that may actually be.

Its the same with better graphics and audio. You can actually turn on legacy graphics and see how far they've come and how much you put up with
