To get to and over 300, I'd say yes. But you could probably get to about 295-297 without ever having done the raid.

I think so. I have never seen a 300 light armor outside of the raid. I have seen a few 300 weapons.
BTW, where did the 300 shotgun come from in the quests I got ? I think it was a conspiracy theory.

As much fun as I am currently having with the newest expansion, it kinda sucks seeing all my hard work go down the drain now that year 1 weapons are now worthless right off the bat and how easy it is to level up when I took so much time getting to 32.

Leveling isn't nearly as important anymore as Light. Grining up to 310 will be exponentially harder than getting to 32 was IMO.

alright, I am currently "souls'ed out" - no bloodborne for me for a little bit, so Destiny it is, my first step is getting my Light level up past 200

I was stuck at 299 for a solid two weeks. Once you get to 300, you can jump up a few more light levels pretty quickly with the help of the possibility of 310 exotics. Even if you don't use them, you can just infuse them and bump up.

Was dreading finally leveling my alt up over the weekend and it took me probably less than 8 hours to get my lvl 25 hunter up to LL 296.
Really looking forward to running the raid multiple times this week and it actually counting.
