I got 3 shards for finishing the final fight yesterday morning.
Then me and Kretzer were able to get the 2nd chest twice with just us two; got two shards both times.
I am assuming you saw me in it last night. I was just soloing it messing around. I couldn't get anymore rewards. Got to Crota though.

I can get to the first chest no problem In Crota, but every time I make it to the second chest and open it, it never gives me anything. What's the deal? This is me solo-ing it

The second chest is behind a door after the second (or third, depending on if you're counting the opening) bridge.
So bridge when you spawn.

Nah this chest is directly to the left of the second lamp. Maybe even a little before it. No shriekers or Ogres

Yea that's the first chest. It reappears regardless of whether you've already picked it up.
