There was an article on Kotaku about how pretty much all of the AAA shooters will be skipping the Wii U - Nintendo needs to shore up third party support.
Well it is definitely going to be hard to get third party support when you next gen console has the same power as current gen consoles.
They are not going to develop multiplat games for it.
Like the Wii, you may get the occasional shitty low graphic quality multiplat port.

Nintendo doesn't cater to the average gamer.
The average gamer now is in their early to mid 30's.
Nintendo primarily markets to kids and families.
Nintendo also just doesn't have the deep pockets to spend on R&D and then take huge losses on the hardware up front.
So... they are perfectly happy with their niche.
That was fantastic mindset for the Wii, which introduced a cost efficient console for the casual fanbase.
But I cannot figure out what that Niche is with the WiiU.
It doesn't seem like it will sell well with casuals who already have a Wii and barely play it, especially when the Wii U has been marketed as poorly as it has.

Mario has appeal but the wii mario didn't keep me interested. It was cool for a couple of days but once i got over it all there was left was zelda.

I've always felt that most of their games don't really appeal to Western countries aside from the classics like mario or zelda
Just about anything with a Nintendo logo sold incredibly well on the Wii. Didn't matter what style it was done in (although very few games they put out are close to anime at all).

Pretty sure they have more cash reserves than every other publisher outside of Microsoft. While the Wii U wasn't a hit, the DS, Wii, and the 3DS printed money.
