Nintendo is crazy.

Haha. I mean it's kind of cool for kids, which was the announcement, and as long as it doesn't impact the Switch....I like varied gameplay and testing modes like this.

Totally. They said "kids" in the announcement.

Look, this announcement is precisely why Nintendo is Nintendo and they can't go third party, and they shouldn't be constricted to copy other companies, and if they don't "they suck." They are the only ones, outside of some indies, willing to try cool stuff.

What the Wiimote did. What the Wii U did for the Switch. This is just them experimenting, which is a wonderful thing to do and keeps them loose.

Plus, it's "maker" stuff, which is a well intentioned movement for kids. They need to think outside of the screen sometimes. This is something I wouldn't buy, but dig that Nintendo is doing it.

Parents that have children with interests in model building/legos etc. Or parents that want to try to tie their child's love for games into something creative.

The demo this isn't aimed at is going to have to spend $70-80 on new cardboard when the target demo straps it to their bike and hot rods it into the bushes.

The twitter storm on this was brilliant. Only Nintendo would hype the shite out of this.

You sure could have used Labo when you were coming up b/c your imagination seems to have withered away and died.

They've already said they'll have "refill packs" of just cardboard that are significantly cheaper than the $70/80 packs that come with Game Cartridges.

Because people don't listen. They said this was for kids and those who were kids at heart.

None of that says "Super Smash Brothers 5"

Again, this is the kind of creativity that they need to do to keep being who they are. If crazy stuff like this kick starts their creativity to build things like BotW, then I don't know why anyone would be upset with this.

Should it be hyped? Maybe, maybe not. The Wii was never hyped and look what happened. The Switch suffered from Anti-hype and look what happened there. Thje Gamecube was way hyped, and it was meh on release.

I do think it's odd because this is both very Japanese, but also not Japanese at all. I feel like this kind of product is more western, not sure the Japanese will go for this, and I feel they know that.

I like the idea a lot, but I feel like this is the tech demo of Wii Sports. It needs a Boom Blox or a Super Monkey Ball to get me really interested. (Neither of those Nintendo titles, but still. Ultimate party games.)

Two things that make this even cooler, especially those thinking about the expense:

quote:

Note that the kits will not be mandatory - although the cartridge is needed - since Nintendo plans to offer the cardboard design pattern for free for aspiring builders

Last week Fuze announced that the platform could be used on the Switch soon as well:

FUZE is a learning environment designed to make learning (and teaching) real text based coding as easy and as accessible as possible.

It gets students and teachers coding very quickly. ?FUZE is already in use by hundreds of schools across the UK and tens of thousands of young people have experienced FUZE first hand at our workshops and STEM events around the UK.

Put those two together and it gets really interesting.

Also, Miyamoto's Giant Robots never left us:

Yeah, Nintendo lost their god damn minds. I mean... what the frick did I just watch. ROB the Robot, eat your heart out. This is the craziest game Nintendo has ever proposed. It reminds me of the Ren and Stimpy sketch “LOG”: LINK

Well things like this are certainly why they can't seem to shake their kiddie image.
