Updated link, full presentation 1080p ]

47:20 he talks about map size, says the previous largest was Elder Scrolls 2 at 161,000Km square map . SC will be 1,000,000 square Km

1:19 is where they show the map of the universe. makes skyrim's waypoint map look tiny AF

1:40:30 starts a scene from the campaign squadron 42, with Gary Oldman voice acting showing off their facial recognition in cryengine. They also said there is a total of 10 hours of cut scene in the campaign, if you ever played wing commander the script is like 5x as large. its gona be fricking huge. oh and while the campaign is completely separate from the multiplayer persistent universe, it's included in every backer package.

if any of you guys decide to do a package, there's a new referral program that just started. using a referral code will get you an extra 5,000 starter money. my referral code is STAR-29GR-PZRK

As of now we still only have the dog fighting/racing/co op vs AI module and the social module that lets you walk around planet side and explore a bit. coming soon is a new module followed by the FPS that's been due since frikkin April ( they changed some things and had to re code it all).

they just broke 1 million backers. come to the dark side of anticipation :D

The game that makes you forget to sleep, eat, and make friends. Because you're too busy sleeping, eating, and making friends.

After what I saw from the multi-crew demo at Gamescom and all the SQ42 stuff at CitizenCon, I've dropped wayyy too much money on virtual spaceships.

So hyped though.

Gusoline -- I literally have nobody to play with, so let me know if you want to team up at some point.

My org in ADK has something like 75 members and is always open to new members. I spent $300 on an Orion that crews 7 or 8 so there will be room for plenty of folks there. Hoping to make tons of cash early mining and buy a small defensive fleet and a Reclaimer, then get into the salvage business and rent out my Orion to entrepreneurs for a nice commission.

Yeah, I'd be happy to join you guys. That's awesome, the Orion looks legit. I have a Taurus, Sabre, Super Hornet, Gladius, and Avenger. I enjoy having all the fighters for Arena Commander, but will probably only keep the Sabre once the game launches. I'll melt down the rest for one of the bigger ships during the anniversary sale next month.

I don't understand why people are spending so much money on a game that hasn't even been released yet...

How can they have "sales" on in-game items before release?

Chris Roberts is like "Hey, you can spend 300$ on this cool thing..." but the game might turn out to be shite?

Nope, people just throwing money at so far is an unfinished game. I think I'm going to wait and buy the game when it is once shelf or digital distribution ..make sure it isn't shite either..I WANT to believe but just can't. Generally too good to be true is just that.

It's the far corner of a gamer subculture that I cannot even come close to understanding.

There is no understanding this.

It is literally one of the dumbest things I've ever read.

every bit of the money goes into development. It's how they're up to a 92,000,000 budget with no one like activision or EA micro managing them, making them release shite before its ready, etc. That being said, I bought the $300 mining ship for one reason.

Having already commited to the idea that the game will release eventually, and having already done plenty of flying in Arena commander and enjoyed the hell out of it, I decided that rather than buying one or two ships i really want for $50-150 each, i would buy the mining ship during the concept sale. this got me

-Lifetime insurance, so I will always have one

- the ability to make TONS of currency, and purchase all the other ships I want at a drastically faster rate.

Plus as i said before, if i find mining boring, I will be able to make literal contracts in game with other players to use my ship and mine for me, and they work off a commission. they goal for me on that is to find eager active new players, and do short term contracts. I want to be making money all day especially when I'm offline.

people sell or " melt" their accounts all the time for cash value in the store. plus everything is tranferable in game so you could technically sell anything in game if you really wanted. no dif than people selling their accounts on any other game.

i could sell my orion on ebay and gift it to the buyer, at profit even, assuming its not purchasable at the moment.

I don't understand. Is it essentially an online society? So, people being hired to mine on commission... that would be what they do in the game? That's their gaming session?

It's a massive open world and universe where you can do whatever you want, but if you want to make in game money you have to do something to earn it.... Race space ships, be a bounty hunter, mine for ore, run transportation, be a hired escort for whoever needs an escort, sell drugs. They just broke 1 million backers this past weekend after CitizenCon. there will be no shortage of people wanting to do everything. Just check out the video on the map part, at one point he shows a detail screen where you can filter by the most economic areas, most pirated areas, most populated areas, etc. this thing is too huge to not be overly excited about. lurk around on /r/starcitizen in your spare time.

Theres a full fledged government, a justice system throughout the UEC, yet there are non friendly solar systems and even unclaimed ones, im sure there will be organizations full of hundreds of ners who wil try to take them over.

there will be people who play the game for years and rarely ever leave planetside unless its flying via commercial space craft, and there are literally people who have bought fleets of luxury transpo ships just to run their own commercial business in game.

there will be guys who play for months and rarely ever see a planet, just flying around bounty hunting and stopping at space stations for supplies and to hire new crew.

I'm sure you've seen the old " imagine" trailer, but it really is pretty fitting for what the game is all about, you can literally do anything.

Star Map Start at SOL, our system, right click on planets inside system for information tab and other stuff.

original imagine trailer

New fan made trailer

My fricking favorite hero trailer

ETA:: oh yea, and the main thing i keep trying to get across to everyone is, even for the $45 minimum backer package, youe get all that, AND you get the campaign that's gona be so epic it's got literally 10 hours of cut scene, AND you get the first person shooter / dog fighting / racing module. there also a post on reddit about how guys using 980s have seen their 4K frames triple since the patch they released today.

The game is going to flop, imo. Its the same basic concept as EVE. As we all know, the problem with EVE is the learning curve...

Well SC has created a similar curve but in a different way - pay to win. People are dropping $300, $500, $1000 on specialty ships as a "kickstarter". Some of these items are exclusives and can never be acquired in game. These arent vanity items but functional items - hell the most important item in a ship combat game - SHIPS! So now we have the same type of problem as EVE, if you didnt kickstart you are WAAAAY behind those who did.
I really doubt the game will grow much past its kickstarter base. Maybe thats enough for it to be a successful game, maybe not. But its not growing to WoW levels or anything.

has been a huge turnoff. I am looking forward to hearing about people losing $5000 ships and $100k+ battles, though.

Yes, it does seem like it's enormously complicated and time-consuming, but there's a clear target audience for games like that and it seems to have a lot of support already (though as you said, it may never grow beyond that). Based on Gusoline's summary of the gameplay, it's not a game for me. I am as "filthy casual" as they come, and it looks like if I want to have fun, I either need lots of money or time. I can barely muster the time commitment to get through a mass-appeal RPG like Witcher 3 or Skyrim.

Just wanted to point out that this is not entirely the case. They've made a point to point out that everything that gets sold can be acquired by in game means. Now, some of the more unique ships may be practically impossible to get, but not functionally so.

Also, I don't think you can really compare this game to EVE at all. Completely different skill set for each game.
