What kind of desk aesthetic are you going for?

Smartass.

There are size limits as I let my grandmother move in with me, she's 90 and has dementia, so what was my entertainment/gaming room has become her room. So now the PC is in my damn bedroom.

One thing I've always had when it comes to desks is a separate, extendable keyboard and mouse tray. To be fair, I've never used one without it. It just always seemed to me like you'd be too high and/or the monitors would be right in your face, if that makes sense.

ETA: Amazon has the GPU for $1699 right now. I'm tempted to pick it up and then just pick up each additional part piece by piece. Would give me more time to think about what I want and how I want everything to look and wouldn't be as huge of a chunk taken out of my wallet lol.

I'm just fricking with you

At the end of the day, while we can talk about the ideal, what's really important is that you get your PC at least a few inches off of the ground. If it's sitting directly on the ground, it will suck up a tremendous amount of dust. If you can put it on a platform of some kind, even if not very high, that dust won't be able to just slide across the ground before getting sucked up, and it will significantly reduce how often you need to clean out the system.

I know.

I do have another question. In this photo, and most others with 3 fans along the bottom of the case, where the frick is the power supply?

It’s a dual chamber case. The PSU is located behind the motherboard on the other side of the case.

As Gent said, but if you've never seen it, it's a little hard to conceptualize. I haven't actually watched this review, so no clue whether the review itself is worth a shite, but I just timestamped a video of the O11 Evo XL showing the back of the case. Feel free to click around the video to get your bearings: LINK

Also check this Reddit post out in regards to a desk.

LINK

This is a 6ft desk and isn’t able to fit the desk on the desk. So you’ll likely want to go bigger to be able to fit the PC on it.

Appreciate the desk advice.

Another question, let's say I'm running an AIO, 3 fans on the side, 3 on the bottom, and one on the rear, which fans would you want to be reversed?

Assuming the side and bottom are the in take fans…. You would want to buy reverse fans to use as the intake and regular fans for exhaust.

So, only the single rear fan would be used as an exhaust, is that right?

If you are mounting your AIO on the top, you would get regular fans for exhaust for the AIO radiator…. Whatever AIO you buy will come with fans, but they likely aren’t going to match the rest of your case fans.

This actually hadn’t made my radar yet.

Actually there is a 3rd model they announced, the O11 Vision. It has glass on 3 sides edge to edge with no support column.

In a standard fan, the air goes into the pretty side and out the ugly side.

As for how you should structure your air flow, if you ask three people you’ll get five opinions

In my build, bottom is filtered intake, side is exhaust, top is rad exhaust. I run a very negative pressure system.

Yes, that's where the cat goes to relax.

As a point of clarification, are you asking about the screen's curve, the fact that it's a 21:9 ultrawide, or both?

Both.

That is a clean, clean build. Exactly what I go for in terms of aesthetics and styling. When I do my 5090 build, I’m calling you. I’m at the point where I’ll just pay someone to put my shite together for me and send all the parts to them. Don’t have the time or willingness to tinker a build from scratch after work

I appreciate it, and whether you're looking for something that looks like mine or something completely different, I'd be happy to help. Each PC build is a little self contained puzzle that's fun to crack. As an example, this build was designed entirely around a vertical 3080fe after it was announced. So, where most people have the side bank on an O11 set to intake, I have mine set to exhaust so it pulls the air directly from the card's passthrough. It also allowed me to keep the "pretty" side of the fans facing me. Etc, etc. Every little bit of the original build, and tweaks that came after, were intentional, and I enjoy the process.

But I acknowledge I'm weird like that. The anecdote I usually tell is that after taking the grueling, week long Louisiana Bar exam, I went home, poured myself a very nice beer, and took my laptop completely apart to clean it. I needed to clear my head, and I find that kind of thing zen as frick. It's basically my form of meditation

How do you like the curved screen? I love the real estate they give but other than gaming they seem to be kind of a novelty. Do you find it useful for everyday computer tasks besides gaming?

To address the ultrawide aspect first, I find it so useful that I also have one at the office. Tons of professionals use two monitors. A single UW is just that with less complication and a much cleaner look. But even outside of productivity, just browsing, the reality is that most web pages are still designed around 3:2. Which makes it very easy to browse like I was doing when you first asked the question:

As to the curve, I think it's extremely pointless in standard monitors but very nice for ultrawides. To the point that I don't notice the curve on my monitor, but anytime I sit down at an ultrawide that isn't curved, I perceive the screen as "curving backwards", for lack of a better description.

That makes sense, I use 2 monitors at work, couldn’t live with just one. When I get around to building my next PC I think I’m going to give a big UW curved monitor a chance.

And for full disclosure, a few years ago, multiple monitors had an advantage in versitility in snap configuration, at least outside of some powershell installs. But, one of the good things added in Windows 11 was increased snap options. For those unaware, if you hover over the square "maximize" icon, this little window pops up:

You can then choose any of those configurations. Several of which are of extremely limited utility in 16:9, but amazingly useful in 21:9 and wider.

+1

I switched to a 34" 1440p ultrawide last year and love it. I use it for both work and personal/gaming. So much easier than dealing with two monitors.
