New FF9/FF Tactics remakes rumors from good track record ho hum

Yeah same. I also love they’re not giving it the ff7 retrilogy treatment. from all we know it’s going to be in the style of the memoria project which was beautiful and be one single game that covers start to finish

I don’t think tactics should be overlooked either. That’s quite literally one of the best narratives FF has ever penned but many many people haven’t played it because it is just too old for them or the sort of charm of the tactics ogre style gameplay didn’t hit for them. I really really wish they’d use the world of Ivalice more than they have….twice.

Then again this is the same company who thinks it’s fine to let parasite Eve die on the vine and then have pikachu faces when they look like tools at investor calls

I don’t think SQE has frick all for 2025. Imo they’re gearing up for something massive around later 2026-2027 with KH4 maybe this new Ff tactics or FF9 remake, the final part for FF7, and announcing ff17 all during that timeframe

I never played FF growing up. My first one was 16 lol.

For someone like me, these remakes are perfect. I still have 7 Remake in the hopper. Started it but didn’t get far. I liked what I saw, it’s just a matter of finding the time.

My only point was that the remakes are giving me the chance to play. I'm not going back and playing old PS1/PS2 originals at this point...but if they are going to do a remake (in whatever style they decide...I don't care) then it makes it accessible for me personally.

You're missing out. The original FF9 graphics are perfect the way they are. They don't need updating. The turn based combat has a real charm to it as well. Hopefully they don't mess with that.

They need to remake 8 before 9. The latter holds up much more IMO.

I think if you just are taking about a games narrative a strong argument could be made Tactics is still the single best FF has ever done. I know that’s a big claim for a series known especially early on for their stories but it’s true. I’d say it’s in contention with X and…..probably 7 and 9 but I’d put 9 at 3rd out of them and 7 at 4 for my personal rankings.

Do you mean 9s story or the game as a complete package? Setting aside its story which again id put at 3 behind X and tactics the gameplay is pretty garbage. Trance is a terrible system and idk how it got past play tests and the atb in the game is so fricking slow. This can mitigated on the remaster for modern consoles by just turning it x4 when youre in combat though. There are some characters that just shouldnt be there like Amarant and the Eiko little moogle girl having a sexual crush on Zidane is odd. Their attempts at recreating a game like the literal GOAT (tied with Gwent) triple triad fails really badly in 9. I think queens blood is a lot better.

I really did like it. Need to move on to a persona game now but they just seem so daunting with how long I’ve heard they are.
