looking for an open world RPG to play.

The fallout series has always intrigued me, but I've never played it. Which one is most worth my time?

Do you like old-school, top-down RPGs?

If so, you'll probably enjoy 1 & 2.

If not, then as already stated - 3, New Vegas, and 4 - all for a good single player experience.

Fallout 76 is much better now than on launch, but is multiplayer so a very different game play/feel.

If you want to watch the show, definitely should play as many as you enjoy - nearly all get references.

Start with 4 as its the easiest to get into. Then go with New Vegas and 3. You can skip the others.

Agree with the board on this one - 3, NV, 4.

I really enjoy the dark comedy in these games.

Fallout 4 is one of my favorite games. I like that you can build settlements and set up supply routes to link all of them.

New Vegas is a great balance of old and new RPG design philosophies

If you didn't play 1 and 2 in their day you're unlikely to enjoy them IMO. There's just a learning curve and difficulty beyond what people are willing to accept now.

I wish they'd give them the RE2 remake treatment.

New Vegas

Then 3 and 4. . .so long as you know they are only superficially related to Fallout, and even then, barely

I tried to play FO1 about ten years ago and bounced off, hard. I wonder if spending so much time with BG3 might prime me a bit to give it another shot. Obviously very different games, but still.

I'm not sure if you're actively responded to me or just responding because I'm the last post (not having a generic thread response options is one of my biggest complaints about TD), but if you are replying to me, I've already played 3 and NV, bounced off of 4.

1 is hard to get into, for modern gamers.

2 is the best of the IP, but it is isometric and has very dated graphics. The story is FAR AND AWAY the best story told in the FO universe.

Depending on the system you're playing on, make sure to have tons of saves for New Vegas as it's still buggy as hell and bypassing one step on a quest can break the mission completely.

I went with 3 first last year as I figured it would be the best starting point. Once you get past the dated graphics it's a really fun game and I don't know why I never played them back when they all released. I've sunk a ton of time into 4 just having fun building settlements and messing with the different mods out there.
