Digital rentals? You mean like Netflix or Amazon Instant or Hulu or OnDemand where you have limited possession of the digital property for a set amount of time?
Yes possibly.

Sounds complicated.
Why when you already said it happens with movies? MS also has the infrastructure in place to do it this go around.

Sarcasm. So if they have it in place, why are they not sure about it like you said?

It was hated on also because the service sucked at the time.
And it forced people into one system. People didn't like it at all.
My point was though that every new development takes time because of stubborn consumers. You can take it head on or you can try to slowly grow into it. Sony and MS are going different routes with it and it may pay off for Sony at the start but the end game is all that matters and I think allowing physical games to hang around too much longer is the wrong way to do it.

Maybe contract details with the publishers or something? I am not 100% sure and can only speculate. The point is the network they have dedicated to Xbox gives them almost endless digital options.

Now, you could say that Blockbuster is the loser in that revolution to digital media, but their business model was not as sharp and convenient as, say, Redbox or Netflix with their hard copies.

Sounds awesome. You can digitally rent movies. I see no reason why games couldn't be handled the same way. Obviously the pricing would be adjusted but it's definitely where the industry is going.

You can call what MS is doing as "taking it head on," but it still pretty obvious to me that so far MS has been going about it the wrong way.

This is a very interesting situation that I'll enjoy watching unfold.
In all honesty, MS is to blame for this outcry. Their PR has been beyond pitiful.

If gamefly became a digital app on Xbox. Oh my.
Posted on 6/12/13 at 1:25 pm to taylork37
I think everyone agrees Microsoft is not going about it the right way right now.

I know and the movie industry is a dinosaur when it comes to digital as well. It's why they fight piracy so much because they were too slow to make their products widely available digitally.
Also that is a broader market and I would venture to guess their average consumer isn't going to be online anyway when using their product like most gamers are.
They are trying to move that way 100% though and the first step was putting it on Pay Per View 2 weeks before you can get the physical copy in Redbox.

Man I'll tell you right now, if Microsoft figures out a way to allow all you can play video games for $8 a month, they will own the world.
I'd be all in.
That would be awesome. You could literally play a different game every night.

definitely my opinion, as it is your opinion that they handled it correctly.
Its all opinions until this all unfolds.

That's why I qualify my statements by saying things like "I think" or "IMO" and not "It's pretty obvious that..." as if it were fact like you do.

I'm not trying to get off topic and on a tangent of semantics but most people on this board, inluding you and me, have been stating opinions as fact. I'm sure I can find plenty of old posts to support that.

Nah. That wasn't just at Taylor but everyone stating things like the above as if it were fact. It's old at this point.
