Metroid Prime 4 development being rebooted, handed back over to Retro

So I guess I'll wait another couple of years before considering getting a switch.

"The current development status is very challenged, and we had to make a difficult decision as a development team. We have decided to re-examine the development structure itself and change it.
We did not make this decision lightly. This change will essentially mean restarting development from the beginning, so the completion of the game will be delayed from our initial internal plan.
We strongly recognise that this delay will come as a disappointment to the many fans who have been looking forward to the launch of Metroid Prime 4.
I'd like to extend my deepest, heart-felt apologies to everyone that the launch will be delayed. It will be a long road until the next time we will be able to update you on the development progress, and development time will be extensive.
However, we will continue developing the game so that when it is completed, it will stand shoulder to shoulder with past Metroid Prime titles."

Yeah, I'm very disappointed we'll likely have to wait until late 2020 (at the earliest) to play it and I'm wondering why Nintendo didn't just get Retro Studios on it to begin with, especially after the disaster that was Other M.
However, I like that Nintendo pulled the plug when they realized the game wasn't coming together and I'm happy Retro is making it. I do wonder what developer was making it, though. Was it all in house or did they partner with another outside developer?

I wish we could get a Super Metroid style game with just more ridiculous gadgets.
I don't play that game hardly because it gives me the creeps. Which makes it a goat imo.

Had no idea it wasn't Retro tagged with making it up till now. Seems bizarre to try to hand it over to somebody else when Retro has done such a great job with it in the past.
I'm glad they scrapped the shite.

Samus Retruns on the 3DS is that game.

However, I think I want a new Metroid Prime game first.

Can you even get this anymore? I thought Nintendo went after them.

That stinks.
But this is usually why Nintendo's top IP's are such good games, quality and experience trump everything else. In the end, we'll get a good game, it's just going to take longer.
The Switch is doing fine anyway, so I don't think this slows it down either.

There's a subreddit for it here: LINK
So yeah, you can still get it, but you may have to dig for a few minutes.

I've actually read they are a decent amount lower than projected sales. Maybe that was setting a high bar because I know they are doing well, just not as good as was hoped.
From October

Nintendo has announced that it sold 3.19 million Switch consoles last quarter, meaning it’s at 5.07 million units for the financial year so far and 22.86 million since its launch in March 2017. That’s right, folks, the Switch has now outsold the GameCube’s 21.74 million total as well as the Wii U.
The home/portable hybrid console has been a big success, but Nintendo does have an uphill climb if it’s going to meet its own optimistic sales target of 20 million for the year ending March 31st, which remains unchanged. The current holiday quarter will be by far the most important, and last year Nintendo “only” moved 7.23 million units. The company will likely have to almost double that to meet its goals, given that the quarter following the holidays is traditionally very slow.

I’m pretty sure the 3D Pokemon game should put out the numbers, and we’re in all likelihood getting that this year.
But yeah, big disappointment. It’s my most anticipated game on the Switch.

The Switch was inarguably the winner in hardware according to NPD, though, especially in December. In 2018, Nintendo made more money on console hardware than any company had since Sony took 2015 with the PS4. Nintendo's December 2018 Switch sales were higher for that month than any year since 2009--the year Nintendo had another huge December with sales of its Wii console

I'm disappointed I'll have to wait longer, but more hopeful that it will be quality. I'd rather them recognize that it isn't working out, delay it, reboot it, and release a game worthy of the Prime tag than get (an)Other M.
I know a lot of the OG Retro isn't there, but the DKC reboots by Retro have all been stellar, so they definitely have plenty of talent.

Nintendo Switch US Sales During 2018 Topped Any Console In The Past Three Years
It's a 2 year old console that had supply issues in year one. That is not too shocking. It should be the top seller.
It is doing great. It is. But I think they did over estimate a bit.

That begs the question - What was Retro working on before this?
I hope not just the TF remake.

Again, before the fanboys get their panties in even more of a wad, I didn't say it was doing bad.
