I feel bad that Deep Silver might lose out because of BBs mistake. I enjoy their games and want to support them. If nothing happens and I get to keep the game then I will at the very least buy all of the DLC for it.
Carson, you will get canceled. No one has gotten a key since about 9 when BB found out and stopped it. It's just that some people ordered 100s of copies so I am sure there is a lot for them to process.

I installed the game and launched it just to give it that extra feeling of "it's definitely mine."

Im no expert on business but doesn't best buy buy the permission to sell the digital copies or something like that? I would kinda feel like an arse if not. I heard the devs had some pretty bad working conditions

I think in this case it's Nvidia who has worked out a deal with the game dev at a whatever price to offer a steam key with every high-end video card. Nvidia made the purchase, assigned their own codes for each Steam key they bought, and made it every retailer/vendor's responsibility to track the inventory of and distribute those codes with each applicable sale.
The way newegg handles it is by listing their game deals at full retail price as a separate item, but also blocking anyone from adding it to their cart. It auto-adds to your cart alongside the video card. By having it listed at full retail, it discourages anyone from trying to figure out some exploit that would allow them to add it to their cart without purchasing the GPU. Further, Newegg doesn't email the free game keys. They ship them on a piece of paper/card (unless it's different with Nvidia bundles).
And then of course, if you return the video card for a refund, Newegg automatically deducts the full retail value of the games from your refund.
They don't frick around.

HEADS UP for anyone who missed the sale and is thinking about getting a key on eBay while they're cheap:
A friend of mine just purchased one of those keys on eBay, and even though the seller said it was the Steam key, what my friend received was the GeForce key that still needed to be redeemed for a Steam Key. Luckily, it worked, but who knows if more geforce keys will work in the morning. The seller my friend used may not have understood what was being asked, so I would make extra sure that the one you're buying is a Steam Key.
Though in all likelyhood, Nvidia will allow the already distributed keys to go through, just to avoid becoming part of the PR nightmare best buy has created.

I knew I should have pulled and all nighter and beat the game. Even if they do take it away from people already having it activated on steam I will be ok with it. I took advantage of a mistake, I'm not going to write angry letters. I do think the right thing to do would be give everyone you do that to a coupon or something. Hell even Ubisoft did that for me

Now they are saying you likely won't be charged extra for it or have it taken away. Who knows at this point really?

Well they won't charge extra because you would have to agree on that. I don't see them taking it away either but that is more likely of the 2.

I'm sure Best Buy would have to pay Deep Silver for their losses as well. Also, there will be people like me who are going to buy Metro 2033 when I had no intention to just to play it before Last Light.
